Australian Super Rugby team Rebels are AU$ 9 million in debt. A merger with the Brumbies is proposed because they are also in trouble.

So the super exciting, chuck it around 15 a side league Super Rugby isn't drawing in the audience and cash either?

I can completely understand why Union is struggling in Australia, the NRL is marketed in such a great way

Not just the NRL, but Aussie Rules too. Union is behind those two and almost certainly cricket too.

How can Aussie rules have over 75 million fans in Australia? The population is just over 23million?

They are a bit weird on how they got those figures but if they have based all those results on the following off their site its still not good for Union.

"About 75.7 million Australians tuned in to watch the games countrywide, an average of about 500,000 per game, making Australian rules football the most watched sport in Australia".
