When you watch Saints all of their backs seem quicker in thought and deed and the passing is spot on in front of the man for him to run onto without breaking stride. Man for man our back line is very good so must be the coaching or game plan

Exactly, same with most of our opponents, but we dont appear to quite have that same pace, fight or tenacity.

I think it's because we are so obsessed with the set piece. Under Borthwick we got the majority of wins through the rolling maul and it same again this season. Do not get me wrong we must have a strong set piece and a monster forward pack but we must also have an effective attack. The likes of Sale,Sarries and now Bath all do and so must we

Agree with other posters as you look at the backs we have and they should be some of the best aroundBUT unlike Quins, Saints, Exeter, Sale and Sarries ours have hardly played any consecutive games together. It makes a huge difference.
Let’s hope things begin to click v Bath.

Always seems to be something with our back play, season after season after season.

there is an obsession with rotating, maybe in the pack you need to but the backs? are they really that much in need of a rest?

Agreed. It may well be that they know they are not likely to ever get the ball :smt002

May also not help that out backs coach has disappeared, whether of his own accord or not, we don't know.

When was the last time we had a proper attack coach who was well respected in the game. Matt O Connor was very good under Cockerill and then went to Leinster. Cannot think of anyone else during the last 20 years who forged a reputation with us as an attack coach.

Bang on 👍 The only logical conclusion is that it is not a priority for the club

Tis a pity about Atkinson. But Shillcock has certainly emerged in my view to compete for the 10 spot. Best wishes to Atkinson for his future.

Agreed. Shillcock has come in and just looked composed. Atkinson is potentially a serious talent but for whatever reason it just wasn't working for him here. Best of luck to him at Glaws he put the effort in, in a Tigers shirt. Shillcock and young Wilkinson gives us two good back ups to Pollard at 10. If there's some freed up cap then hopefully we can secure Brown for the rest of the season.

Atkinson leaving reminded me of something i'd thought about in the past, why do Tigers still sign players to generally shorter contracts (3 years seems to be the most we sign anybody too) when we seem perfectly happy to either tear up or negotiate releases from said contracts anyway. Seems to me it would be better to sign the likes of George Martin, JVP, Steward etc up on 5 year deals and reduce the hassle of re-signing them every couple seasons.
