Re: Farrell out of Six nations
Can they really contract him if has chosen not to play?
Different if players get injured but unacceptable if unavailable by choice.
No player is that important and no potential player should miss out to accommodate anthers choice.
You step off the international treadmill the onus has to be on the player to force himself back into contention to justify disrupting a side that has evolved in your absence. He has had 2 cracks at the latter stages of the world Cup and won't be better in 4 years time.
Move on and evolve a side for the future.

Perhaps it's a ploy. Saracens are reported to be trying to cut Itoje's salary in half. What if Itoje became the single marquee player and Farrell's salary was cut only to be made up by a central contract.
Other conspiracy theories are available.

Come on now,it’s Farrell! Myself and others called exactly what would happen in the RWC ,that Ford would be outstanding in the group stages and that Farrell would immediately come back in when his ban was up.And that’s EXACTLY what happened,to a tee!mol2 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 03, 2023 1:40 pm Can they really contract him if has chosen not to play?

A lot of people say statistics don’t lie.
With Farrell at the helm England came 3rd in the tournament and he was the leading scorer in the tournament.
Would it have been the same with a different 10, possibly but we will never know

good on him for putting health first, Steve should use this to build with a lot of young players, with a few old heads around to provide experience and leadership

And other people say that statistics can be used, favourably, in any direction to support any (their own) theories.
Statistics alone do not tell a complete story, but a lot of people rely heavily on them in the first instance, without corroboration.

That's probably right in about 63% of circumstances ...WhitecapTiger wrote: ↑Sun Dec 03, 2023 5:57 pmAnd other people say that statistics can be used, favourably, in any direction to support any (their own) theories.

Which I agree with statistics can be manipulated.WhitecapTiger wrote: ↑Sun Dec 03, 2023 5:57 pmAnd other people say that statistics can be used, favourably, in any direction to support any (their own) theories.

Maybe what I should have said is facts don’t lie.

It would take a change of plan from Borthwick to go with Smith as the FH of the future - Genge seemed to be back to something like his old self and so must still be in the equation. I have a sneaking feeling that George may be the choice until Farrell makes up his mind about when he is returning to the international fold. I do not like the report that he will be given a central contract whilst refusing to play for the international team at present. Either play or don't accept the money until you are ready to play - it almost amounts to a subsidy of his Sarries contract. If he had said I am not playing rugby at all, then I would not expect Saries to pay him and the same applies to England - injuries are different.
George was awful for Sarries when he came on yesterday, talked a good game from the sideline but didn’t back it up and Lawes unpicked their lineout.
I haven’t seen anything about Farrell being offered a central contract where was this reported?
Hehehehehehehehe

Re: Farrell out of Six nations
As the hybrid contracts (which haven't been fully agreed upon) will not be starting before next season, we will hsve to see if Farrell continues to rule himself out next season.

To be fair, I would expect us to be doing similar. It may well be that players like Steward, JVP, Chessum, Martin maybe Watson and even OHC going on to hybrid contracts will be what allows us to afford what we need to spend to retain players like Weisse.
Our problem may well be that we have too many on hybrid contracts meaning a lot of fan favourite, home grown talent is only seen at the club on special occasions. My fear is that hybrid players may be seen for European matches and not a great deal else.

In the longer term would that help clubs like Newcastle to be more competitive in the Prem?GB72 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 4:22 pmTo be fair, I would expect us to be doing similar.
