Tigers v Gloucester (A) - Premiership - Saturday 25th November 2023 - KO: 14:30

Post by TigerFeetSteve »

Ok two more winnable games coming up against the bottom two teams in the league* before the European break.

It's about making the most of a bit of momentum from these games, target 9 points from the next 2 games really has to be the target

Steward
Bassett
Scott
Kata
Hassell-Collins
Pollard
Youngs
Cronin
Montoya
Cole
Chessum
Henderson
Rogerson
Reffell
Wiese

Clare
Whitcombe
Heyes
Wells
Ilione
Powell
Shillcock
Porter

Quite a few names in a good shout for selection so wouldn't be surprised to be quite a bit out, though I would think about a week off for Liebenberg quite soon.

(*depending on todays result)
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

Time to rest players is Falcons at home the week after. For me if fit I would bring Kelly back in to partner Scott with Kata on the bench.
It appears to be a given that Cronin and Van Wyk are rotating so expect the later to start with Cronin on the bench. Van Wyk has performed well so I don’t get the negative press. Liebenberg to play but don’t disagree with Ilione on the bench and personally would go Whitely over Powell

Posh Richard on the warpath after Gloucester's loss today. Only too keen to point out Gloucester's line out defence and Tiger's line out frailty of late.

Given Glaws 2nd half display against Chiefs we need our best team out. This is going to be a tough season.

You mean the one where they threw away a 2 score lead inside 5 minutes.
Both those sides were average at best

Swap Porter for Bassett and that's largely the side I'd go for. Hoping for Hatherell to be fit for the 20 shirt, otherwise I'd go for Ilione rather than Rogerson. Rogerson has been good but Ilione's jackal threat off the bench would be a big plus to snaffle a defensive penalty in the closing stages of what I predict to be tense final minutes.

At some point this season I'd like to see a Pollard/Shillcock axis at 10/12. Shillcock's defence is good enough for it and I think we'd benefit massively from a centre who can help us get the ball out to OHC and Bassett. He's a player in form!

I have been critical of Heyes but thought he was very good against Saints and deserves another start.
It appears that he is rotating Cronin and Van Wyk starting so may do the same with Cole and Heyes which over the season could be a good thing

Cannot take Gloucester lightly,
Kingsholm is never an easy place to go to.
Can be an intimidating place.
Seemingly heading rapidly toward senility .....Not long or far to go now , in fact, getting worse daily.....

Completely agree. Their 2nd half performance against Exeter confirms this. We will have have to be on our game with the strongest team out. There is no room for complacency here.

Unfortunately, I get the impression that Montoya will not be fit in time. I seriously hope I am wrong.
