It's Barnsey!

Post by jgriffin »

Apparently Wayne is the ref for the final!
Leicester Tigers 1995-
Nottingham 1995-2000
Swansea (Whites) 1988-95
A game played on grass in the open air by teams of XV.

Was always going to be Barnes for the final unless he got injured or England reached the final….the pinnacle of a Referees career so expect him to call time in the not too distant future on his career.
Well done Wayne, should have had a final sooner. Enjoy the occasion!

Didn't he ref NZ in a RWC in 2007? :smt005 :smt002
Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens.

Hugely well deserved. Really pleased for him - he's been superb for years and by a mile the best ref in either hemisphere. Only disappointed is we've not had him do many Tigers games in the last few years

It is such a shame that we have rarely seen Wayne at Tigers in recent years as we could do with excellent referees at our level.
Saturday's Referee was unsure of himself and the offside laws,
So pleased for Wayne but hoping he still Referees the Premiership or is a tutor for the next generation.

Aside from Barnes the only other one I would rate as being good enough is the one from Georgia.

The four under consideration for the final were Barnes, Raynal, O'Keefe and Peyper. The only two that can ref the final are Raynal and Barnes out of the list, but Barnes was always top of the list. Expect to see Raynal appointed as Assistant Ref 1

Is Its Barnsey a play on Beetlejuice and The Shining?

That would be ‘Here’s Barnsey’’ more like.

But congrats to him. Well deserved.

My second choice would be Luke Pierce, he is becoming a very good ref.
