Could have Tommy back next week(hopefully as I want Wales to lose) and a possibility of Martin and Youngs who haven’t featured much for England + small chance of Wiese and Pollard if SA lose to France. Feel a bit sorry for Atkinson playing behind a pack that didn’t perform. He will come good but hope it hasn’t destroyed his confidence. Expect Dan to put an arm around him . To all of you who love to criticise give the team a chance to develop and get behind them as getting on their backs does no one any good.
Don’t think it’s criticism,it’s just saying how the game went/how we played.

I'm pretty sure he would have called out all of those Bristol offsides.

Not a good performance by any stretch of the imagination, but it's only one game in and it's a long season with a new coaching team.

The forwards struggled with no real carriers and no success disrupting the Bristol breakdown - Cracknell looked like he struggled to break the gainline at 7, which I don't think is his best position. Three workhorses in the back row is not great balance. Hatherall added a lot of momentum when he came on, so that's a positive. I'm surprised Ilione didn't get a chance as he seems to offer a turnover threat, which was sorely needed.

I'm a bit disappointed that Heyes didn't make more of an impact, particular against such weak opposition in the front row. I know we got a few penalties, but that could have been an area of complete dominance.

Powell and Atkinson looked a bit out of their depth if I'm completely honest, but it's always hard with no quick ball. Shillcock was a huge positive when he came on, he's a classy operator and for me is clearly ahead of Atkinson. Whiteley also exceeded expectations and looked decent.

Kelly looked strong with very little good ball, fingers crossed he gets a full season in this time. Porter was pretty poor by his standards and the outside backs got very little ball but did what was asked of them with kick chases etc.

Disappointingly, we got out-kicked and out-muscled by Bristol and that was the big difference... let's not mention the maul...

Still a long way to go and a LOT of top players to return - plenty of reason yo be hopeful. I'm glad we competed better in the second half, but how much of that was due to Tigers being better, and how much due to Bristol losing McGinty and going down to 4th(?) choice tighthead? Time will tell.

I guess has Dan Palmer arrived yet?
Might help with the scrum part.

Mauls honestly looked iffy last season at times I thought, I honestly thought we missed Green alot at times. Wonder if Carter might help with it?

It was with more hope than expectation that I though we'd get a result at Briz, we are very much in a reset position again and it will take time to gel, onwards and upwards.

Agreed on Green, he was incredible at maul time. Lots of often unnoticed work in dark places.

It could be worse: Sarries (v Exeter) have just conceded 4 tries in 17 minutes...long way to go though.

Hope we don’t start seeing this potential result as a way to try and justify our performance!
