Tigers vs Ampthill (H) - Prem Rugby Cup - Sunday 24th September 2023 KO 3pm

Post by TigerFeetSteve »

Ok so I think this is the game for a lot of that 2nd half team vs Nottingham to get a start plus hoping some of those coming back from injury may be game fit now.
Maybe chance for some experimention too, possibly a game to try Shillcock at 10, though maybe we want our 10s to get minutes?

My guess

Shillcock
Browning
Cokanasiga
Woodward
Simmons
Wilkinson
Edwards
Whitcombe (c)
Vanes
Richardson
Wells
Chessum L
Carnduff
Manz J
Cracknell

Theobald-Thomas
Van Wyk
Heyes
Manz T
Rogerson
Whiteley
Meredith
Cusick
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

I will be surprised if we rotate that much. Another 3 games to go before Brizzle away Mckellar will be wanting partnerships to get more game time as well as anyone currently returning from injury

Wells, Cracknell, Cronin yet to be seen on matchday (well Cronin played v Notts I suppose). Whitcombe & Carter yet to start.

Depending on if any of those are back I'd look for strong spine of a team then give chances around that.

Whitcombe ---- Dolly----- Hurd
-----------Carter-------L.Chessum
Carnduff---Rogerson--- J.Manz

Powell
---------Atkinson
--------------------Cockanasiga
----------------------------------Cusick
Simmons-----------------------Bassett
----------Shillcock

Bench: Vanes, Cronin, Richardson, Wells, Cracknell, Edwards, Wilkinson, Woodward

How close do we think the Manz are to first team action? I know Tom? was knocking on the door at one stage

Josh Manz come off the bench so far in both games, and was starting ahead of Carnduff in this competition this time last year, checking my stats he's actually played all of the last 6 Prem Cup games across this season & last. Seems to have gone under the radar reputation wise but he's clocking up the appearances.

Ampthill narrowly won at Caldy so should provide a similar test

I wonder if ex Tiger, ex Exeter and probably still with Ampthill (although he has not featured recently ) Tom Hardwick will appear at Sunday's match. Perhaps he will receive the accolade for leaving Tigers with a 3 line statement " no longer involved in the Club!"

I think I read that both Hardwick and George Worth have moved on from Ampthill this season, though I couldn’t tell you where they have gone.

95% sure I saw something re. George Worth being in Pro D2 in France for this season.

Hardwick I have no idea on.

EDIT:

Hardwick & Worth were both announced as leavers on Ampthill's squad post in August

Can't find any info as to where Hardwick has gone, if anywhere.

I see Joe Browning playing alongside Rob Hardwick at Chinnor this season.

George Worth is playing for Valence Romans Drôme in ProD2. Played the first two rounds at fullback. Team are sitting third in the league after 5 rounds.
