Not sure but the social media posts suggest that Potter is only just back with the squad so that may be why he is not in this week.

Yep good point, this week is when the WC training had to be the right squad sizes so likes of Pollard and Porter have been training with the England squad till now

Couple of thoughts from that team...

1 - Wonder if 90% of that team starting tomorrow, starts away at Bristol for the first league game. Bar a couple of changes, it looks there or thereabouts so wonder if McKellar is testing some combinations early and getting that team together from the start.

2 - there is also another senior XV not involved tomorrow (bar Williams) - Van Wyk, Dolly, Hurd, Chessum, Wells, Williams, Hatherall, Cracknell, Whitely, Pollard, OHC, Scott, Porter, Browning, Shillcock. That presumably either starts v Caldy next week or at Sale away. That would mean the young XV on the bench tomorrow starting v Caldy with the seniors at Sale.

Just trying to think similar to what the Lions do on tour where everyone gets a start in the first 3 games then selection tightens up. So we would in effect have 3 x 15's. The team that starts tomorow, tomorrow's bench XV starting v Caldy then the more senior XV for Sale away. That way everyone gets minutes under their belts to get themselves going. Also working on the very unlikely basis that Handre does not go to the WC, even though I'm convinced he still will.

And no Dolly, Scott or L Chessum. Craknell, Hatherall, OHC. Shows depth in squad

No, we are not a biased club, we send out players to many nations to get broken. :smt044 :smt044

Nice looking squad. Particularly looking forward to that 10-12-13.

Hoping its a big year for Emeka and Phil.

As mentioned, it's interesting to see the players not selected. Hopefully no injuries, and we're just looking to give opportunities to as many as we can over the next few weeks.

Looking forward to seeing that team get a run out. Some combinations already tested there (Bassett and Atkinson, Atkinson and Kelly, Simmons and Brown in the backs for example) and looking forward to seeing the midfield and back row in particular.

As others say, with OHC, Scott, Porter, Shillcock, Pollard, Whiteley to come into the back from a senior POV that bodes well for the next game.

I’d hope we get everyone game time in the first couple of prem cup games and then can start to reward form and combinations and gear up for the Prem opener vs Bristol.

Exciting times!

Also missing is Browning, he looked very fit over at Gresham.

Edit sorry I missed him in that 3rd selection.

The new home jersey seems popular around the stadium. Not so many of last season’s in evidence

Alas the beverage service is awful. None of the main bars open under Mattioli or Breedon. Queues galore and this is just a friendly… not a good start.
