I think the rules are that any standby players have to train completely apart from the 33. So would make sense for him to return to Leicester. Less travel if called up

Re: World Cup Squad Announcements
If he is fit come the RWC I wouldn't be surprised if one of the 9's in the squad goes lame...Rugbygramps wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 3:38 pmI think the rules are that any standby players have to train completely apart from the 33. Even if he isn't fit to fully train having him at Oval Park will be advantageous for the our season.
To win is not as important as playing with style!

Yes unless I’m confused they appear to have named 4 scrum halfs though no doubt at least 1 can play in the back 3Wayne Richardson Fan Club wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 4:21 pmIf he is fit come the RWC I wouldn't be surprised if one of the 9's in the squad goes lame...Rugbygramps wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 3:38 pmI think the rules are that any standby players have to train completely apart from the 33. Wow, that's a shock. I feel really sorry for Handré, who must be hurting right now. He'd got himself in such a good place with us after his difficulties at Montpellier.

Just seen that this is the 4th World Cup for both Ben Youngs and Dan Cole.
No matter your feelings as to whether or not they should have been selected, that is a very special achievement and would imagine they join an pretty select group

From an England perspective maybe, wider player group it's a bit more. Quick lift from Wikipedia so, pinch of salt maybe...Rugbygramps wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 4:54 pm Just seen that this is the 4th World Cup for both Ben Youngs and Dan Cole.

Thanks for that Whitecap knew someone would have the research.
So for England 5 players over a nearly 40 year period, so decent achievement

Pollard
Desperately sad for him to miss the RWC.
Not sure how I feel about it for Tigers.
He won’t get hurt and gets time to recover
But
If it’s bad enough for SA to select him, for how long will he be out ?

Re: Pollard
The problem is they can't carry anyone - particularly one of the specialist positions - in the pool stages; they need a fit squad given the draw.BarmyBamford wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 10:28 pm Desperately sad for him to miss the RWC.

He has been placed on their standby list of players so they possibly think he will be fit for the knockout stages.BarmyBamford wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 10:28 pm Desperately sad for him to miss the RWC.

As disappointing as it is for him it’s great for the club he can rehab without needing to play and help with Atkinson and Wilkinson development
Re: Pollard
So if everyone was fit and they wanted him there SA would have to fake an injury to get him there? Not saying they will but just curiousRugbygramps wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 8:19 amHe has been placed on their standby list of players so they possibly think he will be fit for the knockout stages.BarmyBamford wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 10:28 pm Desperately sad for him to miss the RWC.

Or squad disciplinary issues. Which scrum half do you reckon is going to be found in a Paris night club?Scott1 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 8:26 amSo if everyone was fit and they wanted him there SA would have to fake an injury to get him there? Re: Pollard
I’m fairly sure any replacement has to be like for like. I would imagine that on of the 4 scrum half they’ve picked is also listed as being able to play 10SthrnTiger wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 9:16 amOr squad disciplinary issues.
