Post by tigerburnie »

Do we yet know whether Anthony Watson is staying or not yet? Not noticed any statements anywhere.

Nothing yet but I guess that it all needs to be signed and sorted in the next couple of weeks before the squad meets again on 1st July.

This gossip about him getting a possible RFU central contract could it be a distraction or the cause for the wait?

I imagine there could also be a delay due to the ongoing saga at Irish. Once they know what's happening there (today, hopefully) then clubs may or may not offer certain deals. Sarries (rumoured as Watson's possible destination) may prefer someone like Loader or Arundell perhaps (just as examples) if they became available. At one point Irish were rumoured as Watson's destination themselves!

I wonder if we have salary cap available to offer employment to any of the unfortunate players now out of work, or indeed if we need any more players given the current climate surrounding the game.

Who actually knows if the club actually spends up to the cap?

One wonders if something similar to accommodating players/coaches as was done when the Wasps and Worcester players found themselves unemployed will be used?

I notice the club has not yet updated the squad on the site yet, makes you wonder if we still have unfinished business.
Some sides are already sorting out pre-season games too. With a delayed start to the new season, I wonder if those sort of announcements might be later than usual this year due to the World Cup.

We definitely haven't finished announcing the squad.

2 players have been confirmed joining us from the Midland rugby academy, yet to be announced by the club, plus as yet not a single academy promotion announced.

So we 100% know that there are announcements to make some of which we know are signed.

Also worth noting that the squad is currently correct. Players signed for this season are contracted to us till the end of June, next season’s contracts start 1st July so the squad currently is correct
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

Seems very quiet on the news front, I wonder if we will bother with pre season games this year?

I'm expecting a week of announcements coming up. Last week was all about the women's team. They deserved some time in the spotlight.
