Premiership legends debate
Caught this on YouTube. To celebrate 20 years of Guinness premiership finals, Healey Monye Dallagio and Kay got together to pick their team off the last 20 years.

Interesting debate as they looked at how they would perform as a team, and looked at things such as titles won, one club servants etc

Very surprised that Healey didn't pick himself!Rugbygramps wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 8:17 am Caught this on YouTube. To celebrate 20 years of Guinness premiership finals, Healey Monye Dallagio and Kay got together to pick their team off the last 20 years.

Re: Premiership legends debate
Care in front of Austin is a bit of a joke.
To win is not as important as playing with style!
Re: Premiership legends debate
Not sure what the criteria is but surely Wigglesworth has to be at 9 if its premiership legends.
Personally I'd go Harry Ellis as the 'best' SH. And Cozza in for Lawes but thats with my tigers tinted glasses on...

Re: Premiership legends debate
They all picked a team and had a debate where necessary. Austin tried to squeeze himself in a few times.
Re: Premiership legends debate
Harry Ellis was one of the best 9s to wear a Tigers shirt. Sadly injury shortened his career and perhaps the player that retuned after the injury was a shadow of the player he was, clouds the memories of just how good he was.
It’s a shame the England side he played in was woefully slow. He would run into gaps and the players who should have been running supporting / clear out lines were not doing their job.
No mention of Jonny Wilkinson in this list.
Richard Hill?
Trevor Woodman?

Yep, for me he would have been one of the best 9's ever if it wasn't for that injury, and the rubbish England team....mol2 wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 12:02 pm Harry Ellis was one of the best 9s to wear a Tigers shirt. Re: Premiership legends debate
Remember we are only looking over the last 20 years, 03 - 23, so it’s the impact made during that period. As I remember it Woodman, for instance, played very little rugby after to 03 World Cup, also it’s the impact they had on the Premiership, not their whole playing career which would have included internationals.
Of the 15 selected only 4 were unanimous, Ayerza, Brits, Jonno and Barrett

Re: Premiership legends debate
Jonno retired in 2005 or something didn't he?

Re: Premiership legends debate
The other 2 fly half’s in the debate were Hodgkinson and Goode. Again we’re looking at the impact they had in the premiership not their overall career, and Wilkinson won the title mush earlier with Falcons
