Has anybody watched the Brumbies scrum closely this season to see how its gone? I've just read a couple people saying the Brumbies scrum went backwards when he took over

All I have seen is good things about him
But he’s been Brumbies scrum coach since 2014 pretty much nearly
Interesting Rod Seib was mentioned with Palmer when McKeller talked about coaches

Question on Palmer, looks very exciting. My query.
What role does he join us?
Is he scrum coach replacing Harrison?
For me that looks a step backwards?
He was just a scrum coach, he now seems scrum & forwards coach for the Brumbies. Plus lineout coach for Australia.
Personally this means I reckon he'll come in more as a set piece coach covering the scrum and lineouts, ok that means he's replacing both Harrison and Wilson, but it makes sense in my minds, Borthwick as HC ran the Wilson role till he came. McKellar is meant to be a bit of a lineout specialist & ex prop. Means we can cope till he starts plus gets the balance right.
Key for me is that we also keep Deacon in his Forwards coach role too

Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

Talk about re-writing history! Leatigaga was consistently the first choice bench prop and filled the role very well.Rugbygramps wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 1:26 pmAnd because he frankly wasn’t good enough. Both Cronin and Whitcombe were out for extended periods due to injury, and I think Leatigaga may have as well, so injury cover was required. At best Leatigaga was 4th choice loosehead a role which Richardson can now cove. All in my view of course

Personally I think Palmer is directly replacing Harrison, then indirectly replacing Wilson. Wilson effectively replaced Borthwick as lineout lead. McKellar covers some scrum aspects so wouldn’t surprise me if Palmer is named as Set apiece Coach.TigerFeetSteve wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 9:54 am Question on Palmer, looks very exciting. My query.

Then with Brett Deacon covering forwards and breakdown that’s everything pretty much covered. Also keeps proper Tigers DNA installed with Deacon, and a strong pairing who’ve worked together successfully before in McKellar and Palmer. Palmer also effectively comes in as McKellars No. 2 voice.
Then with Everard as Defence, Smith General backs and academy transition and Dickens likely covering attack (?) then apart from an Aled replacement / coach we are looking well set in my opinion.

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2022/23 Squad and transfers thread part 2: The Lion, the Wig and the Wardrobe
Leitigaga arrived here after some management changes having been signed by the previous regime. I believe our thoughts at the time were that we had been landed with another Fonua but the guy arrived early for pre season training, worked hard and proved himself better than expected. His ability to cover both sides of the front row was useful, he is a good prop but not in the class of Genge or Cole, we now have younger and better cover both sides. Leitigaga has been a decent servant to our club and I wish him well for the future. Richardson may be a good replacement but we have not yet seen enough of him to know, if cap space is there and someone comparable to West is available then sign them up but we may have other positions more in need of strengthening.

That’s interesting as we only played 20 premiership games and he was released earlyRagingBull wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 10:25 amLeatigaga played in 21 premiership games last seasonRugbygramps wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 10:18 am2 or 3 seasons a go possibly and his scrummaging wa always questionable

Assuming you mean the 21/22 season, where we had Genge and Whitcombe too. Imo Van Wyk gets a bit of a bum wrap but that’s me. Leatigaga was supposedly on a decent salary due to his ability to cover both sides, but again imo he fell into the Mulipola category in that there were some very impressive bits but they were sandwiched between some very anonymous play, and his general fitness was never at he highest level.

Next season hasn’t started yet so yeh I mean last season not this season.Rugbygramps wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 10:40 amThat’s interesting as we only played 20 premiership games and he was released earlyRagingBull wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 10:25 amLeatigaga played in 21 premiership games last seasonRugbygramps wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 10:18 am

If you want to be pedantic about it and say 21/22 season then fine. It
I’m not saying that he was worth the money but he wasn’t 4th LH when we won the league and was clearly viewed as 2nd choice LH/3rd choice TH coming into this season. And was clearly 2nd choice LH in the season we won the league and was on the bench for the final
Whitcombe looked good but Van Wyk has been a scrum penalty magnet
Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2022/23 Squad and transfers thread part 2: The Lion, the Wig and the Wardrobe
Van Wyk is a strange one. Not good enough to start but as a replacement seems ok except against top quality tightheads . Having lost both West and Leatigaga would be surprised if we didn’t sign another loosie.
