Did he do something to you? Seems oddly critical. Also where does he refer to himself as a rock star? The only place I see mention of it is in the BBC where Tom English says he 'was a genuine rugby rock star'.wormus wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 6:38 pmYes he is only 31 in June but classes himself as a "Rock Star!" and having seen him at Exeter post match cuddling the crowds and them combing his locks then I prefer real hardened players dedicated to their club ~ like our Gopperth @ 40 years, Ashton @ 36 years, and great to see him sign again in Brown @ 38 years. No Hogg is a D'Artagnan " All for one" and that's himself!
Even though he says he is retiring I suspect he will seek a comeback on his best terms for those wanting him..

Having lived in Scotland for 11 years, being involved in community rugby extensively for much of it including at a club Hogg was drafted to early in his career, had the chance to meet him a few times from before he got fame to after I can categorically say that this is drivel.wormus wrote: ↑Tue Mar 28, 2023 6:38 pmYes he is only 31 in June but classes himself as a "Rock Star!" and having seen him at Exeter post match cuddling the crowds and them combing his locks then I prefer real hardened players dedicated to their club ~ like our Gopperth @ 40 years, Ashton @ 36 years, and great to see him sign again in Brown @ 38 years. From teenager, to Glasgow star, international, three time Lion, Scotland captain, then back in the ranks of a massively improved international side, winning the double at Chiefs, etc etc he has remained a pleasure to meet and a benefit to the game in my experience.
As for hardened and dedicated he's managed to transform himself through his career from a lightning counterattacking runner with his early pace to a fantastic territorial kicker and much improved player in contact through the later years to stay near the peak. His form has begun to slip recently and if as he says the body isn't up to it much longer then fair play for bowing out on his terms. A true Scotland great who has been responsible for many wonderful moments in Scottish rugby both as an individual and part of the team.
Sorry wormus, you're a poster who's input I usually enjoy on here, you're clearly a very knowledgeable and passionate Tigers fan but from everything I've seen of Hogg that's a dire misread of a player seemingly on the farcical basis of him having the temerity to get a different haircut to a short back and sides. If someone popped in here to post something that misinformed yet insulting about a retiring Tigers player most of us would feel the need to rebut it immediately. I see no reason not to do the same in this instance.

He’s also been quite humble about himself saying how much he has learnt over the years as a player and a person and realises his previous faults as a young man …. Well I think we could all say that

I respect Hogg for bowing out early. He could have milked at least one more two year deal out of a club knowing that he wouldn't be giving value for money because his body isn't up to it. Instead he's going to try and retire on a high at the world cup.

Felix Jones joining Borthwicks coaching team from 2024. Ex Irish international and coached at Munster and with South Africa. Not a name I’m that familiar with.

Worked with Aled at Munster and South Africa. Interestingly he's been a defence coach and a skills coach which seem to be positions already covered by Kev and WigRugbygramps wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 2:40 pm Felix Jones joining Borthwicks coaching team from 2024. The Times has run articles in 2021 and 2022 discussing his role as the South African attack coach. He was the attack coach at Munster so either he's shifted roles within SA or Wiki isn't accurate.kpj tiger wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 2:44 pmWorked with Aled at Munster and South Africa. He's got experience in Ireland, South Africa and France. Three of the biggest current international teams. Could be a good insight for the coaching group post world cup.

Still a bit of a clash of roles with Wig potentially?sam16111986 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 3:01 pmThe Times has run articles in 2021 and 2022 discussing his role as the South African attack coach. Re: Transfers & Rumours Non-Tigers 2022
Are attack coach and skills coach the same role.
Re: Transfers & Rumours Non-Tigers 2022
Wig was attack coach for Borthwick wasn't he, I'm pretty sure it was stated he'd be attack coach with England too although that might have been papers guessing
Re: Transfers & Rumours Non-Tigers 2022
I believe Jones has worked across attack and defence for the Boks. Shifting more to defence since Nienabar took over as head coach.
There seems an interesting move towards more more fluidity between coaching roles with 'assistants' being named more often rather than the set in stone attack, defence, forwards, etc. Going back to Hansen's time with NZ they had a very flexible setup. At one point when they wanted to refresh things without changing coaching personnel they simply rotated coaches into different roles. Ireland have crossover between Easterby and POC currently. England's successful times under Eddie saw crossover between Hatley and Borthwick with the forwards, then Borthwick and Gustard with the defence where Borthwick did a lot of defensive contact area work and fringe defence stuff that was so vital to Gustard's systems.
Another earlier example for England was Farrell having crossover from defence into set-piece or phase one attacking plays under Lancaster whilst Catt was backs coach. The England attack didn't quite click then but it's clearly doing wonders for Ireland as their ability to "use defence as a means to start attack" as Faz Snr puts it is fantastic now. Those systems are likely aided by that fluidity between roles.
Wigglesworth was named as "assistant" but will likely be a mixture of skills and attack coaching. Jones presumably also working between attack and defence. Sinfield leading the defence. Peel is rumoured to be joining for the scrum and forwards alongside Borthwick who specialises in the lineout and contact area. Walters for S&C. To me it looks a well rounded setup. It's a young one as far as coaching setups go but every member of it has had success in their short coaching careers.

ABClub post makes a lot of sense. More and more the transition phase, between attack and defence, is becoming important so coaches need to be able to work across multi facets.

This article in the Times suggests Sarries are confident in keeping Peel
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

Oghre is a good player but a starting & bench combo of him and Thacker is very lightweight, it really feels like Bristol don't learnTigerFeetSteve wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 9:12 pm So full list of the Bristol signings & re-signings today:
