Reffell @ 25

Post by Knightonian »

Does anyone have an inkling on Refells contract or career aspirations

The Welsh have reset the 60 rule for 25 and I think there is a realistic chance if he has a 2 year contract left he could there…

He’s on 6 now, assume another 3 in 6 nations, a couple over summer and 5 during the World Cup and before you know it he’s within striking distance….

I've been told that he's contracted for next year with Tigers

sign him to a new deal even if that means loaning him to a region for a year to get over the 25 cap number, better to lose him for a season than for good

So Reffell on 6 caps.

19 to go. So from what we hear he doesn’t need a contract for next season.

3 more in the 6N
3 WC warm up games
4 WC group games
3 WC knock outs (max)
5 6N 2024 games

That be my count leaves him one short, so if he has to sign another contract before 2024 summer's internationals he won't be eligible... only just but only 18 games between here and there.
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

...and of course that assumes Wales both make it PAST the quarter finals of the RWC, and that Reffell plays in every international from now until his contract expires.

It is very rare for a player to play in every RWC game, even if the team makes the finals. Normally even the best players get rested for one of the weaker pool games.

Even with favourable selections he'd still fall a few caps short of the threshold.

This is why it's key his contract carrys on into 2025 at least, if it does that and he avoids major injury he should be above that threshold.

The club desperately need income and Tommy needs some more caps...

How about we put a Tigers vs. Wales Select XV fixture in for one of these fallow weekends and let him play against us for his country? Better still, make it a best-of-seven series. Let's get Tommy to 25! :smt002

With stories like this, there will be some cheap Welsh players moving. Not many going the other way.

Would definitely look at internationals with 25+ Welsh caps.

For me, we should be cautious about signing foreign international players unless they are very special.

We lose enough players to England and, to be blunt, why should the English Premiership fund the Wales side?

I think it would be incredibly perverse to create circumstances where Tommy is forced out of a relatively stable arrangement, with a good club, where he is happy and getting excellent support and plenty of gametime, into a Welsh set-up where instability reigns. Even with a 25 cap rule this would be bonkers.

Looking at the state of the WRU, why would you go to a welsh region
