I like hearing ex-pro's view's but one person's vierlw is hard to confirm or deny some coaches butt heads with some players. If I had a heart to heart with Tom Hardwick I severely doubt he'll be particularly complementary about Borthwick as a coachPostiger2 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 12:36 pm I'm not trying to stir the pot but went to a party last night and through a friend of a friend, got talking to an ex pro who played for Ealing. Let's just say he was less than complimentary about WWs coaching. A lot of shouting and that's about it, was the general gist.
Hoping someone more established might be on the way.
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

As far as I recollect he has only ever been in play offs, never a winner as a club coach. 62% win rate with Glasgow, moving on in France when playing, because teams were not successful, and that is reflected throughout his career.

Took Glasgow to 2 finals.
Lost v Leinster in 2014
Beat Munster in 2015

It won’t be Wigglesworth or Gregor Townsend but it will be a quality coach, sadly because of the RFU, next season.

When was the last time they reached the knockout stages of the Heineken cup?
When was the last time Scotland won the Calcutta cup 3 times in a row?
You cannot just look at the win rate- look at who he is coaching and much improvement he makes with them.
Basics of judging all teaching or coaching- value added not overall outcome.

He's nurtured creative and abrasive players through at Glasgow and Scotland. I tend to think that Scottish fans take Townsend for granted a bit and seem to have forgotten what it was like before he took the helm. Cotter was pretty good before him, though the rugby was more dour, before Cotter though they had some really dreadful years.RagingBull wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 7:45 pmPJM wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 7:02 pmSo 7 years since he won anything, apart from theCalcutta cup of courseRagingBull wrote: ↑Sat Feb 04, 2023 4:39 pm

When do people think we’ll hear about the next permanent coach? Think the club will wait till the end of the season or announce as soon as something is agreed?
Re: Tigers post Borthwick - next Head Coach?
May help recruitment if they announced straight away.Terracetiger4 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 5:36 pm When do people think we’ll hear about the next permanent coach? Think the club will wait till the end of the season or announce as soon as something is agreed?

Doubt it'll make much impact tbh. Think 95% of business is probably complete already.ay2oh wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 6:22 pmMay help recruitment if they announced straight away.Terracetiger4 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 5:36 pm When do people think we’ll hear about the next permanent coach? Townsend has, apparently got 3 options according to some press rumours:
a) stay as Scotland coach after the World Cup
b) go to France
c) Tigers
Our problem is if a new coach comes after the World Cup obviously there’s no pre-season: our squad will be decimated due to most of the first fifteen being at The World Cup!
