Whilst I sympathise with a rugby player wishing to continue to earn a living, there are thousands of job vacancies in this country, everywhere you go the excuse is always "sorry but its due to staff shortages".longlivethecrumbie wrote: ↑Thu Oct 27, 2022 10:01 am It does make me wonder if someone like, for example, Willis is forced to move to France as no teams in England have any cap space left - would England relax their overseas player selection criteria?

Dan Biggar has secured an early release to Toulon for the rest of the season according to French media, some speculating its so Saints can free up cap space for Wasps/Worcester player/s but others pointing out Biggar is likely a marquee so no cap space will be free'd, very curious

Might not free up cap space, but would reduce player budget and could be offset against what they are paying the incoming Worcester player(s) and reduce overall club losses.kpj tiger wrote: ↑Thu Oct 27, 2022 2:44 pm Dan Biggar has secured an early release to Toulon for the rest of the season according to French media, some speculating its so Saints can free up cap space for Wasps/Worcester player/s but others pointing out Biggar is likely a marquee so no cap space will be free'd, very curious

Re: Transfers & Rumours Non-Tigers 2022
Makes a bit of sense. If you want to save a bit of cash on the wage budget, Biggar is going to be away with Wales pretty much until April now (assuming he recovers from injury to take some part in the Autumn Internationals). If he leaving anyway at the end of the season and an offer is on the table for him now, why not save a couple of hundred grand in wages. If we were losing any of our biggest earners at the end of the season and someone wanted to sign them now then, based on them being away for the Autumn Internationals and the 6 Nations, I would not object to them leaving.
Then again, not sure why a team would want to take Biggar on now as he is injured but sure to be called into the squad if fit again. But injured or on international duty, it just does not make sense to sign a player that you are not going to see much of until April.

There are thousands of job vacancys but if you've just taken a mortgage out based on your 150k earnings for the next three years you wont find many jobs paying that money to stack shelves.LE18 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 27, 2022 12:09 pmWhilst I sympathise with a rugby player wishing to continue to earn a living, there are thousands of job vacancies in this country, everywhere you go the excuse is always "sorry but its due to staff shortages".longlivethecrumbie wrote: ↑Thu Oct 27, 2022 10:01 am It does make me wonder if someone like, for example, Willis is forced to move to France as no teams in England have any cap space left - would England relax their overseas player selection criteria?
Likewise the lads who earn 60-80k playing salary wont walk into a corporate role on that money without years of experience and will have to start from the bottom even if they do have a degree.

Which is why players should have a back up plan from the moment they enter an academy & the clubs should push this as much as time in the Gym.chipnchase wrote: ↑Fri Oct 28, 2022 8:59 amThere are thousands of job vacancys but if you've just taken a mortgage out based on your 150k earnings for the next three years you wont find many jobs paying that money to stack shelves.LE18 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 27, 2022 12:09 pmWhilst I sympathise with a rugby player wishing to continue to earn a living, there are thousands of job vacancies in this country, everywhere you go the excuse is always "sorry but its due to staff shortages".longlivethecrumbie wrote: ↑Thu Oct 27, 2022 10:01 am It does make me wonder if someone like, for example, Willis is forced to move to France as no teams in England have any cap space left - would England relax their overseas player selection criteria?

Some do. For instance, I know a player who was in the tigers academy and was encouraged to apply for uni despite getting a development contract.
