How the forword pass was deemed ok is truly baffling.
It’s the old hands moving in a backward direction thing

Hmm, again another suitably vague law of the game that only causes consternation.

Does it say anything in the laws about the hands? I'm not sure it does!

It does not, only that the ball should not be thrown forward intentionally.

Which if followed logically should mean any attempt to knock the ball backwards by a defender should not be a deliberate knock on if the hand was moving backwards towards the defenders goal line.

Thought they were putting gadgets inside the balls now to measure stuff, including forward passes ??

They've been trialled in the PRC, but seem mostly to be used primarily to measure kick hang time atm...
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

Iirc it was Dewy Morris who first came out with this “way the hands are facing” nonsense. Although happy to be corrected if anyone can remember someone earlier than him.

It was a 50/50 for me each time I looked at it I came to a different conclusion.

Pretty sure it was Southern Hemisphere thing that as long as the hands move backwards curvature of the earth blah blah means it may appear to be forward.
Facts from the night Malins hands move back wards , the ball ends up in front of where he started to pass it but behind where he ends up, Earl runs forward onto the ball. Make your own mind up

Think we ought to do away with all this nonsense about which way the hands are pointing. If the receiver catches the ball in front of where it was passed it’s a forward pass. End of.

Laws discuss the direction of the ball relative to the teams own try line and it was Sky sports commentators in Australia who seemed to kick off the hands thing and there are some videos online of players running and passing with the hands clearly backwards but the ball goes forwards due to the runners momentum. That is true but that just means that to be within the laws they need to pass it further back if they are running faster! If this magic ball does get adopted it will be relative to the sensors round the pitch so back to the actual laws then! Lines in the grass on replays would do the same!
