Re: Clermont
If you have time in and around Bercy id recommend eating at l’auberge aveyronnaise and going for a plateful of their legendary saucisse aligot which is basically the best sausage and mash you will ever have.
Added benefit is that it doesn’t sit lightly so you’ll probably have a pleasant snooze on the train after down to Clermont.

Re: Clermont
The average journey time from Avignon to Clermont is over 5 hours. Sounds as if this train takes the « circular scenic route », and should be avoided. The train from Bercy - after a hearty lunch if Saucisse aligot seems a lot more tempting

I’ve done the trip to Avignon. Great, especially if you get a seat on the upper level from Paris. Really comfy and a pleasure, the link to Clermont doesn’t sound so good.
In my defence, I was left unsupervised….

Sunday fixture makes this a distinct possibility...TigerFeetSteve wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 9:15 pm Checked the flights to Limoges, currently only flying two days a week from East Midlands Sat & Tuesday.
Hoping for a Sunday game therefore as the flights will be perfect.
Arrive Sat, hire car to Drive, Sun game day, Monday recover/tourism. Head back Tuesday.
Flights currently £102 on skyscanner.
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

Re: Clermont
Same here and completely agree. It’s a pleasant journey in its own right. And the same line ends up at Marseille should we progress to the final….
One top tip is to buy the Paris Metro Ticket (a couple of Euros) from Gare du Nord to Gare du Sud from the buffet on the Eurostar and do this early on in the journey as they often run out. This removes some hassle once leaving the Eurostar as the time they sometimes give to travel across Paris can be a bit sporty! Another tip is it used to be that in standard only carriages 5 and 14 had charging sockets, though they were upgrading.
You can also start your journey from some UK stations using a little advertised “CIV” ticket, which is usually cheaper than most domestic tickets, is valid during peak times, and includes railcard discounting. The biggest benefit though is its covered by the international conditions of carriage, meaning the whole journey is treated as one. I.e if you get delayed they’ll put you on the next available train. Best source of advice I found on this is www.seat61.com. Though agree the Clermont leg looks a bit “off-piste”, but I’ve always enjoyed a French rural train as an adventure in itself!
If you have time, Avignon is a simply stunning place, particularly if you like archeology, history, good food and Wine. So is Orange and Arles which are nearby stops on the same rail line. There is also a certain Chateauneuf du Pape between Orange and Avignon. A word of warning, if you stop at Avignon there are two stations. Avignon TGV and Avignon-Centre. The latter is better as Avignon TGV is a few miles outside the town, though there is usually a bus and taxis.

However, cannot for the life of me find a hire car for the Saturday?

Re: Clermont
We have often used a British company called Buggs Car Hire, They have an office at Limoges Airport. Might be worth a gander, although a quick glance suggests the have put their prices up a bit.HandOfBack wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 3:48 pmFlights are looking good from East Mids to Limoges.TigerFeetSteve wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 2:15 pmSunday fixture makes this a distinct possibility...TigerFeetSteve wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 9:15 pm Checked the flights to Limoges, currently only flying two days a week from East Midlands Sat & Tuesday.
