It's cheered my siblings up as they really hated the chant and the faux Indian thing.

What offended me the most about the situation were the tedious debates about whether it was offensive or not, so I'm pleased that it has been changed and we don't need to suffer those conversations any more!

Indeed....I was only looking at Tigers regiment cap badges the other day and thinking similar.mightymouse wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 3:12 pm I think it’s a great change .. well done to the chiefs for keeping a fantastic club name
And getting a an new updated logo based on local ancient tradition, that fits it.
Just need to change whoa whoa whoooa !

Re: Exeter Chiefs to rebrand for next season
I only mentioned the Tiger thing as a caution that you never know where the laser of scrutiny will point next.. although there is of course, debate as to where the Tigers got their name. Whilst many believe it was named after the regiment, others believe it is the colours of the original shirt. so if even the club historians don’t know for definite then it would be more difficult to criticise us negatively.
Having thought more about the Exeter thing … could they ( the current largely Anglo Saxon heritage, club officials and fan base) be criticised for culturally misappropriating a Celtic iconography that was decimated and wiped out by successive waves of Roman, Saxon and Norman invasion and settlement?
Just a thought
May have to do some mass DNA testing to prove that theory though!

Not sure what was the most offensive the branding or the chant.

It is very probable that the "Celts" were not wiped out but assimilated. The old theory of the Celts being pushed West has largely been discounted. The "invasions" rolled over like water not like a bulldozer.

Re: Exeter Chiefs to rebrand for next season
And yet our DNA is largely Saxon .. but maybe not in South West
Re: Exeter Chiefs to rebrand for next season
Still plenty of predominantly Briton DNA from west England and Wales, west of Birmingham, studies have suggested it is surprisingly stable. Cornwall definitely HAD it but most of Kernow owned by outsiders now.mightymouse wrote: ↑Sat Jan 29, 2022 12:52 pm And yet our DNA is largely Saxon .. but maybe not in South West
BTW it was the chant that my sibs hated most.

Common sense finally broke out.
Re: Exeter Chiefs to rebrand for next season
We don't have DNA in the South West. We don't hold with that modern nonsense. Molecules capable of self-replication under the right cellular conditions? Political correctness gone mad. Hot soup of particles for us, please. None of your atomic muck.mightymouse wrote: ↑Sat Jan 29, 2022 12:52 pm And yet our DNA is largely Saxon .. but maybe not in South West
