A lot of what SB says is about balance and flexibility in the squad. Whilst there will always be specialist players and positions, he likes players who can cover multiple positions if needed. Likewise, he likes a mixture of experience and youth.
I’d love Marler here, but I don’t see it personally. We have good experience in the front row already with Montoya and Cole. I can’t see our first choice props being Marler and Cole even though they’ve more than likely got a few more years left in them at top level.
I do like Mahler’s music, can be a bit sad sometimes though.

Interesting comments from Cornish Pirates CEO regarding Cowan Dickie leaving them to come to us whilst he was ending rehab on an injury. I think the story was that he had played with our forwards coach so a know quantity. If we can keep him fit and playing for them then it could be a good relationship.

It’s Danny Care they’ve announced not Marler..RagingBull wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 9:59 pm Suspect Quins announcement tomorrow will put a end to the Marler talk.

And that one will INTENSIFY the Marler rumor...TheChild wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 12:03 pmIt’s Danny Care they’ve announced not Marler..RagingBull wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 9:59 pm Suspect Quins announcement tomorrow will put a end to the Marler talk.
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

It’s not been rubbish at all. It’s a fact we’ve been talking to him. I’ve not seen an article or comment suggesting that it was a done deal. On the podcast we certainly amplified that talks were progressing but we still expected him to stay at Quins. Today’s announcement of Care probably confirms talks are still ongoing.Cardiff Tig wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 8:22 am It does seem that more and more often someone on here suggests a player that would be great to sign as a replacement e.g. Marler, there's a bit of chat about it on the thread and suddenly there's articles and websites reporting the rumour. 99.9% of the time they are rubbish.

Doesn't Marler live on the south coast and basically does what Mrs Marler tells him to?
Kids in school or very near, he isn't moving north in my opinion.

This does make me smile. Why would we have any clue about the current state of Marler’s family situation, his wife, whether he’s staying where he is or how settled his kids are in school !!? It’s not the 1960s, people move around all the time, I moved every 2 years for 22 years, kids schools and everything !! There were issues but you see it as a challenge and take it on. I can absolutely see Marler moving to us. New challenge, he’s won the Premiership already, the thought of working with Aled, Sinfield and Borthwick, who he has already worked under. There’s some compelling reasons right there. I’d be jumping at the chance to join us.Roadsweeper wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 12:45 pm Doesn't Marler live on the south coast and basically does what Mrs Marler tells him to?

And in a time when players move half way round the world for a better contract, the argument about being settled really doesn’t hold waterwestwinds31 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 12:52 pmThis does make me smile. In my defence, I was left unsupervised….

I mean it actually does hold water though.
We lost our two best players because they wanted to be with family.
Marlers family is all down that way.

It IS a fact that we've been talking to him. Whether or not he would sign for us or not is a completely different question however and very much up in the air.RagingBull wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 12:47 pm I wouldn’t say fact just yet.

Don’t discount lingering feelings of poor treatment.
I expect it had an influence on Ford and Genge’s decision making and I expect it will with Marler too. He’s been quite open about the Quins upper management.

It's worth noting that Iceman is actually one of the guys running the rolling maul podcast that broke the news of Marler being in discussions with us

Was Marler close with Mike Brown at all? He was very vocal when he left about his poor treatment by Quins...
