Apologies yes Hegarty, realised I’ve left Steward off the bench too, but leave it as it is as we won’t see him till March anyway
Re: Leicester v Bordeaux (H) - 22nd January 2022 - 15:15
James Whitcombe will make his first start in European rugby at loosehead prop, alongside Nic Dolly and Joe Heyes in the starting front row.
Charlie Clare, Ellis Genge and Nephi Leatigaga are the replacement front-rowers on the Tigers bench.
Ollie Chessum, who started last weekend’s away win in Connacht at blindside flanker, moves to lock to partner Calum Green in the Leicester second row.
In the back row, George Martin and Tommy Reffell are the flankers and Jasper Wiese is No8.
Eli Snyman and Harry Wells are included among the replacements.
Ben Youngs and George Ford are the starting half-backs, with Dan Kelly and Matt Scott paired in the Tigers midfield.
Ford will captain the side at fly-half.
In the Tigers back three, Hosea Saumaki and Freddie Steward are the wings and Bryce Hegarty the starting full-back.
Jack van Poortvliet, Freddie Burns and Guy Porter are the replacement backs on the Leicester bench.
Previewing Saturday’s European fixture, Borthwick said: “Bordeaux are an incredible side, probably the best team in Europe, and a club that boasts a wealth of resource as you can see through the depth and talent within their ranks.
“It will be a massive challenge for us on Saturday afternoon against what is a tremendous side coming to Mattioli Woods Welford Road.”

Very strong side. Great to see Whitcombe getting a start and Martin back from his recent absence. Still no Hanro or MVS but perhaps they aren't being risked for this one. Proper back row for a change with good options on the bench. All the England lads featuring as expected. Very pleased that Hosea gets another start but not a fan of Freddie on the wing. No complaints overall though and a very strong 23.

Reasonably pleased and it certainly looks like we are going for a massive impact from the bench come 50 mins. Just hope the pack can hold their own at the start.

I like the look of the team. Strong all over with a monster bench.
Guessing Robinson (cup tied) and Van Staden (concussion return protocols) were ineligible as Reffell could do with a week off, otherwise a strong team

Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

Can't agree. Reffell is a true 7, fast off the line and great at the breakdown.I believe he will go on to achieve great things

Sorry meant 7 cover ,Reffell is a great 7. My worries is he's being run into the ground though

Yes a very good team, but disappointed there is still no sign of Hanro/MVS. Hopefully they are not too far away.
Unusually it looks like the Old King has been given a week off as well, hope he's not injured!

Our kicking game was crucial in the first leg, so I can see why we're sticking with Hegarty at 15. Particularly if there is no Jalibert.
