Agree with Old Hob in that!
Sarries supposed to have been named in reflection of the tenacity of Saladin's 12th century army against the Crusaders.
I'm not sure if Tommy Cooper prompted anything rugby wise, the club was founded in 1876.

Saracens I was told were not solely Turks but were those that followed Muhammad (Muslim).
The differences are- no living group of people identifies as Saracens, and the iconography the club has adopted hasn't historically been used to airbrush genocide or mischaracterise myriad groups of people under one stereotype. As always, it isn't onerous or unreasonable, it just requires a bit of consideration and to listen to groups who have been historically mistreated.

Latest twist sees Glasgow ask Exeter fans to refrain from the wearing of headdresses :

Seemingly heading rapidly toward senility .....Not long or far to go now , in fact, getting worse daily.....
Re: Re-Branding a Possibility For Exeter?
Seriously It seems as though the aim is to dig around, until you find something to be offended at.
Re: Re-Branding a Possibility For Exeter?
Not really, those that have the right to be offended and decide what is offensive, the native american people have said exactly that, it is offensive. At that point, there should be no debate about stopping the practice and rebranding. More clubs should take the same stance as Glasgow and prior to that, Wasps.
It is not for Exeter or their fans, or the rugby supporting public in general, to set the agenda here.

It's embarrassing that we have to keep having this conversation. The National Congress of American Indians has consistently adopted an articulate and reasonable position that anybody can look up. To claim that this is a matter of people being too sensitive is ignorant.
