How soon before its called a Knock on, or forward pass? :smt017
If done intentionally and ball goes forward deliberately off head etc then surely its a forward pass, albeit to oneself but what if another player collects it? Oh heck someones going to say whats the difference between head ahead or kick ahead.

My understanding, and I have to look it up but it was certainly true when I played, is that a forward pass /knock-on is one that comes from the hand/wrist or forearm. Kneeing or chesting the ball was legitimate.
