He's a Marquee signing so we wouldn't have free cap so to speak, unless we move say Youngs into it then that would free up 250/300K ish.

Ford is a marquee, next year there will only be one marquee spot so will be more a case of using that wisely. There would be an argument for targeting a second row such as Kruis.

We would need a replacement starter at 10, to me that isn't a debate. Whether that 10 would need to be a marquee player or a good player below big tent wages such as Lozowski is a different debate in my opinion.

I would add that I still hope George stays and this is agents bartering for an increase at Tigers.

Next year is 2 Marquee players still it's 22/23

Premiership Rugby clubs have reportedly reacted to the financial crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic stoppage of rugby in England by unanimously agreeing to cut their tournament’s salary cap by £1.4million for the 2021/22 season. There will also be a reduction in the number of marquee players sitting outside the cap in 2022/23.

Is Youngs one of our highest earners. Would have guessed that Wiese and Van Staden would be on more money.

Wiese and Van Staden may not be on a high salary as they only made their debuts after signing for Tigers, if I remember rightly.

If Ford does go we could use his salary to make sure that we keep other players whose contracts are up for renewal.

I thought Benny took a substantial pay cut at renewal time? I'm sure the rumour at the time was that he and May had been asked to scale down their salaries beginning with a 3 to something beginning with a 2.

Everyone did so the all the scales go down.
Montoya, Youngs and Cole are all most likely on 250K-275K

The Sale Sharks director of rugby Alex Sanderson has made an offer to bring the Leicester Tigers fly half George Ford to the AJ Bell Stadium next season as a replacement for AJ MacGinty, who is joining Bristol Bears.

However, Leicester are understood to be battling to hold on to the 28-year-old England international, who is reportedly looking to earn between £600-700,000 a season. This would have significant implications for a Premiership club’s £5 million salary cap, plus two marquee players whose salaries can sit outside that spending limit.

According to a ruck article (likely a load of rubbish) in Feb 21:

Leicester Tigers:
George Ford – £600,000
Ben Youngs – £350,000
Ellis Genge – £325,000

Pretty disrespectful for Sanderson to be talking so openly about another team's player.

That said, he sounds confident of getting it done which is ominous

Ford would surely be one of our Marquee players whereas my understanding unless I’ve misread the rules is that he can’t be a marquee player for another premiership club the following season if he’s previously been for another premiership club.. might have got that wrong but surely we would be better placed with us as a marquee player?
