It isn't that long since one stepped over the barrier at Kingsholm, deliberately to touch a ball, to prevent Billy Twelve trees taking a quick throw-in. Clubs should be penalised when their so-called waterboys interfere with play. They're starting to become a nuisance.

Should have to be called on by the ref or the player leaves the field for take a drink, otherwise they stay well away.

Water carriers are only permitted onto the pitch when the clock has stopped. In this case they were behind the goal line where they were permitted and kicked the ball to prevent a quick play.
This was spotted by the officials and dealt with accordingly.

What happened was simple cheating and deserves a starting point of a 12 week pitch side ban with reductions for guilty pleas and any mitigation. :smt009

When Wasps played here in Wycombe, their water boys were doing this on a regular basis, but I never saw any penalised.Sharp practice. It really annoyed me. :smt013

Didn’t Geordan Murphy years ago when he was acting as a water boy catch a ball to stop a quick throw in by the opposition and was sanctioned for it?

One of the waterboys also pushed the Chief's scrum half which is what started the scuffle. That bit was quite amusing actually, waterboy pushes Chief's scrum half and then turns round to find himself about nipple height on the looming presence of Johnny Hill that then pushes him through the advertising hoarding. Karma at work.

I don't agree with water boys on the pitch at all.
Physio/medics on to injured player with Ref's permission only.

Anyone who wants a drink can go to a designated area with water carriers not allowed out of that area unless the ref call them on when there is a clearly going to be a break in play.

If they intentionally touch the ball it should be an automatic penalty. Perhaps there should be a team yellow card served by a player of the opposition captain's choice?

A card or ban for someone who isn't a player is an irrelevant punishment so there has to be a team sanction.
If the ball enters the designated area and struck then a quick line out cannot occur.

Clock was off so no quick play was possible, be interesting to see what the charge is for back heeling the ball one metre with time off in the dead ball area?

Possibly unsportmanlike behaviour ie 'Misconduct Law 9.25. A player must not do anything that is against the spirit of good sportsmanship'.

Is a water carrier a 'player'? Not as straight forward as it seems, unless World Rugby are about to close this loophole once and for all and include team officials.

Think you are missing the point. Do we want this type of behaviour from non playing staff regardless whether it is against the laws or not.
