Re: Transfers & Rumours Non-Tigers 2020-21
Kepu solely plays tighthead, Gigena solely plays loosehead and Irish don't have a prop such as Leatigaga that covers both sides so it can't be a direct replacement. Perhaps Kepu moving on has cleared cap space but if Irish have bought out Gigena's contract that counts towards the cap.
Gigena will compete with Dell for the loosehead shirt and I think he will do well. Ollie Hoskins is still at Irish as a very good tighthead but they only have Chawatama after him. Goodrick-Clarke and Elrington are both looseheads leaving them with 4 looseheads and 2 tightheads. Perhaps one of the Goodrick-Clarke or Elrington will try to convert but they are 27 and 25 respectively so not exactly academy graduates with 15 years ahead of them in the game.

Gigena was trialled at tighthead in the preseason friendly against Cardiff in 2018, I recall it not going so well. I think Kepu's departure and Gigena's rumoured arrival are separate, Irish will probably sign someone else in the interim, someone on loan from the Championship or from a fellow Prem team perhaps.

Gigena announced by London Irish.
Interestingly Irish state he joins as a free agent following his release from us - suggests no pay out to buy him from his contract.

I doubt that they would disclose financial information like that, but i would hope we did get compensateday2oh wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 10:40 amMaybe but at least we save on his wagesRunTigerRun wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 10:27 am Gigena announced by London Irish.

Agreed unlikely to disclose that information, and rightly so as that’s personal to the club and player - just trying to read between the lines and perhaps understand the possible reasons for his departure.tigercub21 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 10:47 amI doubt that they would disclose financial information like that, but i would hope we did get compensateday2oh wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 10:40 amMaybe but at least we save on his wagesRunTigerRun wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 10:27 am Gigena announced by London Irish.

Seems to me an attempt to reduce our cap, especially now Montoya has arrived early, you would not want to lose that saving by haggling over compensation.ay2oh wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 10:40 amMaybe but at least we save on his wagesRunTigerRun wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 10:27 am Gigena announced by London Irish.

USA and Cheetahs scrum-half Ruben de Haas rumoured to have signed for Sarries for next season. Ivan van Zyl has also been linked to them. Two good signings at scrum-half if they come through.

IF he has got this one right (not often I know) then it could lead to more speculation that Freddie Burns is on his way back to us. He refers to Cips possibly going to Japan as a replacement for FB
Hehehehehehehehe
