Cheers, read through that thread now, intresting how it says that it still affects selection, that would pretty much confirm that Bonilla is not getting selected due to his overseas status.RagingBull wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 7:54 pmFrom Twitter BBC Leicester sport.TigerFeetSteve wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 6:05 pmCheers for that RB, is that from one of your sources or do you have a link to that interview?RagingBull wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 5:43 pm So Enever was a overseas player.
Gigena was not.
Sounds like Gigena might have been tempted at a better shot of starting/better pay/Borthwick didn't rate him as highly,
Also
Borthwick, in describing how he wants to reshape the squad, says he is "a couple of years away" from the squad looking like he would like.
"It’s not like transfer windows where you can make changes regularly. We had to make quick signings because players left."
Borthwick says it is "inevitable" that squad sizes will decrease in the Premiership, because there fewer games and fewer competitions currently, and due to the salary cap:
"The salary cap is reducing, so to keep as high quality squads, you need to reduce the amount of players."
Borthwick adds that a "focus on academy talent" is therefore "crucial".
"Developing homegrown talent and academy players is crucial.
"You can see how important that is to us with the likes of Freddie Steward. Loaning players to the Championship clubs will also be vital."
Borthwick also adds that several players will be loaned out to Championship clubs ahead of the new second tier campaign.
"Loaning out to Championship clubs is being sorted this week. We want to be able to make those announcements as soon as we can."
The Tigers head coach adds there is "plenty of poisitive news", hinting at the announcement of player signings.
"There’s a lot of work to do here, and we are getting on with that. When the time is right, then the club will make the statements."

Am I missing something in thinking that we ( and all Premiership clubs)need to shed £1.4 million from salary cap by start of 2021-22 (excluding caveats) so high earning and high profile departures are to be expected?

Taufua, Lavanini, Gigena and Enever all either gone or going. As you say we'll have to be quite thrifty on the replacements. Might still see a few more go and it be a case of development squad fleshing out the first team when injuries and international call ups come in. We've already seen Martin, JVP and Steward all come if age in the last 6 months. Think we'll be seeing more of that.soggytiger wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 9:22 pm Am I missing something in thinking that we ( and all Premiership clubs)need to shed £1.4 million from salary cap by start of 2021-22 (excluding caveats) so high earning and high profile departures are to be expected?

Obviously why Bonilla isn’t getting a sniff then . Moroni and Montoya are both first choice players so he would be available. Makes sense why we would be looking at burns if it’s true . Even with the outgoings the squad is better balanced and there will obviously be more comings and going’s yet , during our title winning years it was the academy and non international players who pushed us through especially in international windows and we look much stronger now when missing the England boys . Only worry is if any of the African boys and the Fijians get called up in the autumn . Good things are coming for us !

We agreed 25% pay cuts with all (well all but 5!) players in the summer which will have dealt with that in the main.soggytiger wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 9:22 pm Am I missing something in thinking that we ( and all Premiership clubs)need to shed £1.4 million from salary cap by start of 2021-22 (excluding caveats) so high earning and high profile departures are to be expected?
Goooooodeeeeeyyyyy!

Wasn’t the pay cuts for one season only ? And the loss to be made up to the players once financially stable ? Could be wrong but I thought that was the deal

I don't think so, from my understanding it was a permanent 25% cut for the duration of their contract.
The loss can be made up but only when the club is profitable not just financially stable. That is likely a number of years away.

The 25% cut may be permanent but I do recall Andrea saying on an LTTV that players would be able to get the difference back once the club is able to.TigerFeetSteve wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 6:07 amI don't think so, from my understanding it was a permanent 25% cut for the duration of their contract.

Little thing
Tom Hardwick is the only player in both development and senior squad to not have their player profile picture be of them in the home match shirt.

I noticed that the other week (but at that point there was 2, the other being Montoya, who hadn't actually played at that point)RagingBull wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 10:12 am Little thing

He's certainly one we no longer have plans for going forward.

If as Borthwick has stated, the Championship loans are sorted this week, I think we should see a few things. Key ones for me
Whitcome - if he doesn't go out, to my mind that's an indication there isn't another prop coming in before the end of the season to replace Gigena. If he does go it may be we'll get a replacement shortly, or that SB rates Bower and his progress that he's made recently.
I'd like to see Bower, Aspland Robinson, Lewis, Coghlan & Olowofela go out in addition to the development guys, let them get game time and we can see if they can come back to push for places or if they need to to be let go when their contracts finish.

Who is next? Olowofela, Kerr, Aspland-Robinson, Hardwick, Clare, Simmons, White all senior squad without a lot of hope of getting regular game time.

I don't think White will go out on loan. But the rest probably - not a chance of any game time with Tigers so need to be seen if they have any hope of getting contracts elsewhere. Hopefully Lewis will show what he can do at Coventry and I'm sure he will be snapped up by someone for next season if he is out of contract with Tigers.

This has to be a sensible move for both the player and the Club. Retaining home grown players and maximising their 'credits' is becoming crucial from a Salary Cap perspective.
So there will be more announced soon. I imagine that Championship clubs are being inundated with offers of players from Prem clubs at the moment, as everyone grapples with next season's reduction in cap.
I know finances are tight, but I hope that SB is getting some help with negotiating loans, contracts and with recruitment in general. Also who is the appointed Salary Cap Manager at the Club now that Jan McGinity has left? I haven't seen any announcement from the Club, despite the Wilkes rumours.
