Tigers vs Quins - 04 Oct 20 15:00

Post by OakhamTiger32 »

Ok, so I can't think about tonight's game anymore it's too depressing. Onwards and upwards and let's end on a high.. huge match, huge.. nothing to play for season wise just confidence, pride and respect. So let's do this:

15 Kini Murimurivalu
14 Kobus Van Wyk
13 Guy Porter
12 Matt Scott
11 Nemani Nadolo
10 George Ford
9 Ben Youngs (vc)
1 Ellis Genge
2 Tom Youngs (c)
3 Dan Cole (vc)
4 Tomás Lavanini
5 Calum Green
6 Harry Wells
7 Tommy Reffell
8 Hanro Liebenberg

Replacements:

16 Shalva Mamukashvili
17 Facundo Gigena
18 Nephi Leatigaga
19 Sam Lewis
20 Luke Wallace
21 Ben White
22 Zack Henry
23 David Williams

I'm not a fan of Wells at 6 but he seems to get the nod - hope that might change with the additions of Brink and Wiese for next season. Would like to see Lewis get a start but with Reffell likely starting at 7 I think the coaches will favour Wells again. Clare deserves a place in the 23 on merit imo but as it's the last game of the season I'd like to see Mamu get a little game time.

It's a shame we haven't had a chance to see the back row combination of Brink Taufua Liebenberg yet. That could be an incredibly solid back 3 with Wiese, Reffell, Lewis and Wallace stepping in as required. Exciting times ahead...

Anyway.. I digress.. back to this weekend.. any thoughts?

*forgot Van Wyk is available.. good shout

Could this be the final nail on our DoR's coffin?

If we continue to stick to the same labotomised game plan we have deployed since Murphy became Head Coach we could field the All Blacks and still lose.

Think we’ll probably see Van Wyk debut for the club, coaches will be desperate for a win to finish off the season.

Genge Youngs Cole
Lavanini Green
Lewis Liebenberg Reffell
Youngs Ford
Scott Porter
Nadolo Muri Van Wyk

Clare Gigena Leatigaga Wells Wallace White Henry Taute

The problems stem from when he was still playing, I am prepared to hold my judgement till 5 games into next season.
If the season hadn't been "Covided" we would of finished further up the table.
Not really sure what we have gained from these games.

Sunday would like to see Simmons as the reserve 9 if he is fit enough as long term he might be a better bench option, Steward & full back for me, with Kini & Nemani either side, Van Wyk off the bench or start at 13, but really would like Taute & Scott to play the other way round.
I hope for a reaction from Ford & for us to actually play some rugby, the constant kicking is driving me mad.
To win is not as important as playing with style!

Not what I'm expecting but what I'd like to see.

1.Genge
2.Youngs (c)
3.Cole
4.Green
5.Wells
6.Smith
7.Reffell (vc)
8.Liebenberg

9.White (vc)
10.Henry

11.Nadolo
12.Scott
13.Porter
14.Murimurivalu
15.Steward

16.Mamukashvili
17.Gigena
18.Leatigaga
19.Lavanini
20.Wallace
21.Youngs
22.Ford
23.KvW

I think White/Henry need game time with the first XV backs. With Youngs/Ford almost certainly unavailable for 11 of the first 14 rounds next season those two need game time otherwise by the time the 6 Nations ends we could be in deep proverbial. It's hardly like Youngs and Ford having 170 international caps and getting picked behind our full strength pack has led to competent performances anyway.

I think Smith has shown some good touches since the restart. He's noticeably bulked up and has played well. I think he's deserving of a chance in a stronger pack.

I thought Mamukashvili looked busy when he came on today.

Totally agree that the half back pairing should be the pair who will start most games next season. Doubt though if our current coaching set up has the balls to put Ford and Young’s on the bench! My problem is that White is now ingrained with kicking every ball away I’d try Jack Van Poortvliet. He has a bit of the Faf De Klerk about him and that’s certainly what the whole team needs: some urgency and energy.
Tigers has two huge problems going forward if in these difficult times the club wants to survive.
a) younger fans have to be attracted which at the moment won’t happen with the style of rugby we are playing
b) getting the winning habit.
At least Quins, with Smith and Care as half backs will bring some entertainment value!
At the moment I just want to see us win by scoring some tries.

This is interesting. I agree with you in that they would definitely benefit from some game time with the first XV ahead of next season. That said I think the confidence of a much needed win might be the huge boost that we need and are we more likely to get that starting with Youngs/Ford.. probably. It’s a difficult one but a very good point to raise

being cynical----
The only team we haven't put out against a team since restart is Loughborough Womens.
At least they'd make a game of it.
Might also learn how to work to a game plan.
