London Irish
Next Wednesday's match is unquestionably a must-win game.
Under no circumstances should Irish be underestimated - remember that they gave Tigers a sound beating earlier in the season and will undoubtedly be revved up to record a famous double.
Borthwick has to pick as strong a side as possible with the right mentality to give the club an overdue win and an important boost to the confidence of players and supporters alike.

Yep, this is the one game where the side to face Castres needs 50 mins, with the better lads from today on the bench.Robespierre wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2020 6:40 pm Next Wednesday's match is unquestionably a must-win game.

Without hope we are nothing, keep the faith, a Tiger for eternity
Re: London irish
Irish were the poorer of the two dire teams today but a good result is a must in my opinion, but it is obvious that this game was always going to be targeted.

Re: London irish
Agreed. In general, winning isn't everything this season but it will be difficult to start well in the new one if we haven't developed that habit. If we put out a strong team at home to Irish and fail to win, some doubts might start to enter players' minds and we will face an uphill task.
It seems as though we may be targeting every other game - so that would be Irish on Wednesday, Sale at home in two weeks time and Saints at home the weekend after. If we can win those 3 then I think that puts us in a good place leading into European competition and then next season. I don't have a problem with us sacrificing the other games to achieve that.

Re: London irish
I’d have thought Porter, Potter, Lavanini and Enever might get a look in at first choice match day 22 going forwards but as they played today I would like to see a team of:
1. Genge, 2. Youngs, 3. Cole
4. Wells, 5. Green
6. Liebenberg, 7. Reffell, 8. Taufua
9. Youngs 10. Ford
12. Scott, 13. Taute
11. Nadolo 14. Murimurivalu 15. Steward
16. Kerr 17. Bower 18. Leatigaga
19. Henderson 20. Lewis
21. Coghlan 22. White 23. Hardwick
With Mamu, Wiese, Brink, Van Wyk and Moroni still to arrive/feature the match day 22 is shaping up pretty nicely for next term.
Need a win on Wednesday so here’s hoping the lads can get it done.

Re: London irish
If we don’t win that we clearly may have to rely on ring fencing to avoid the drop next season!

"Murimurivalu will link up with his new team-mates in the coming weeks ahead of the scheduled resumption of the English Premiership campaign in August" This was posted on 21 Jul 20 and the BBC also said he would be available for the restart of the campaign so he should be but not 100% sure about fitness/availability tbh. I hope so! If not then Olowafela or Williams.

Re: London irish
If Taute starts again then he needs a big performance to justify continued selection.

Re: London irish
Don’t think he’ll be a starter going forward but not sure who else we have instead? Moroni for sure next term but for Wednesday..

With the team from today I'd say that XV largely picks itself if all are available.
I really don't like the tactic of selecting first XV and second XV pretty much separately to one another but hopefully it can bring us a result on Wednesday.

Re: London irish
Irish seem to be going through a terrible injury/absentee patch at the mo, none of their big guns (Rona, Naholo, Coleman, Creevy, Mafi, Kepu etc) started against Saints. Hopefully we can get a few patterns going without having to worry about much firepower in return.
Re: London irish
Worth didn't do himself any favours today but I thought Porter looked like he might be an option at 13 - obviously not in the picture for Wednesday though. He was far from flawless today but I liked his energy, by comparison Taute always seems a bit tired.OakhamTiger32 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2020 7:59 pmDon’t think he’ll be a starter going forward but not sure who else we have instead? Re: London irish
Brink seems to be in training to maybe we’ll see him off the bench against London Irish. Haven’t seen Sam Lewis yet either so maybe he’ll start or also be off the bench.
Anyone know if Aspland-Robinson is fit yet?
