Borthwick - " Welford Road is a special place"

Post by kpj tiger »

Interesting piece on Steve Borthwick taking the whole squad to Welford Road where he outlined what he wanted Tigers to be going forwards

Someone more cynical than I might point out that a few months ago Murphy said he himself would have the last word on selection. I hope they're on the same page...

Additionally, that person who is far more cynical than I might say that every head coach at every club says it is a special place.

Luckily I'm not cynical at all and am very positive about the future :smt023

You have to like what you see and hear with regard to Steve Borthwick - traditional old school values.
Seemingly heading rapidly toward senility .....Not long or far to go now , in fact, getting worse daily.....

I would say the same about Aled Walters, mighty impressed with his LTTV interview, no magic wand just hard work.
Stupidly, with a name like Aled, I didn’t realise he was as welsh as he is.

No nonsense. Say it as it is. Keep it simple. Don't mess or else.
Great to see he believes the heart of Tigers IS Welford Road ( the right end). :smt035

Not sure I heard that but I do recall in a recent interview Murf said that his new roll would play to his strengths.

Borthwick was brought in for his coaching skills and clearly would never have taken the job without the freedom to do it as he felt fit. He stands or falls by his results on the field.

I can understand why the Cockers/Mauger saga is making fans twitchy over who has final say on selections and the like but I’m sure it will be a collective decision between all coaches not just Borthwick and Smurfs.

“Warren Gatland and Eddie Jones are two very good selectors,” Borthwick said. “It is an approach where every single day is a selection day, and understanding the responsibility you have in having that final say [on picking the team]. To be really clear on the reference points you have: how do you want to play, what strengths do you have in your squad and why are you trying do it."
