I think there is some real positivity to the signings

All of these players will be here most of the year

Wallace we would have taken last year and as a squad player is a good addition

An squad development player from Sydney- if we believe Taylor is the new messiah - then he should know if Potter and Porter will cut the mustard

I remember Hamilton and Newby gave their all for this club, the epitome of nearly internationals and became great Club men - hopefully Van Wyk can achieve this

Oh and Argentian and Fiji international’s looking very good

I’m loving the star wards analogy’s

Some of the replies on this link wow, it's almost as if people don't understand the salary cap and the concept of players wanting more money than the club can afford in a global pandemic/the club don't feel they offer enough value given injuries and availability.

I think today was a great step for the club, Mcginity clearly knows what he's doing imo.

There is a lot of guesswork in this thread about who is replacing whom.

With a smaller squad, and following the lead of Eddie Jones, I suspect that SB is wanting players to be increasingly multi skilled and multi faceted, and not fixed to a particular shirt number.

Nobody is a direct replacement. Some have great specific skills but, if SB follows EJ, all will be expected to play a flexible role as part of a team.

Excellent post, I noticed earlier comments like there isn’t a direct replacement for Manu, or we need a specialist number 8. Well no we don’t there are certain positions that don’t need specialists. That being said, if we can do it within budget another loosehead and a gnarly old lock would be nice.

Nadolo wasn't viewed as his replacement when we signed him.

May saying the offer was good enough to consider it.
That is true, could be possible that Moroni is viewed as a replacement for May then?
Moroni became available when the Jags hit problems from the Pandemic so I had assumed he was brought in as Manu's replacement. Murimurivalu found himself without a contract in France due to the new French qualified rules. Perhaps he was envisaged as the Holmes or May replacement. If that was the case and we initially intended to pair him with TV and Nadolo then it is a shame TV left as that would have been awesome. Then again he is about the perfect replacement for TV.
In the clips above Murimurivalu seems to be playing 15 most of the time. Maybe seen as a TV replacement?

+1

I was going to post something similar. Who cares who replaces who. We don't need direct replacements, we just need a squad with the right players in it.
This squad seems to be getting there. 👍

I think given the delays to Moroni and Van Wyk explains the loan signing of Williams from Nottingham. With that I don't expect to see any other backs come in.

With the situation with the Jaguares looking uncertain I wonder if we'll decide to take Montoya earlier than planned? Which could mean juggling our hookers for a little bit, unless OTY decides to step aside a bit earlier than planned.

What else do we expect, I'm going to say 2 more signings:

1 - prop replacment for Bateman. Got to say I'm not expecting a "big name" prop as I don't think we're short in strength at prop just a little depth with Bateman leaving (do we know where Gigena is, how's his visa, if he's not back, expect someone who can cover both sides)
2 - I think given recent signings who have versatility in position. I think we'll look for a player who can play lock & back row. Not sure who's on the market, but I expect this to be the focus of remaining salary cap

Beyond those two and possibly Montoya early, I expect all other signings to fall into the category of developing young players. I know there's a bit of a call for a specialist no.8 but I think the new team is focused on versatility not specialism, just look at who England played at no.8 in the 6N while Borthwick was in the coaching setup
Used to run around with an 11, 14 or 15 on my back.

Not sure we will have an out and out 8, the game seems to be going away from that but I understand the desire to have a big ball carrier in the backrow...

and we all know about Taufua.
I feel we should be covered for carriers in the back row.
