Suspect Wallace, Porter and Van Wyk were possibly all coming before the contract mess and Murimurivalu and Moroni are replacing TV and Manu? That said it is possible one of those could have been a replacements for Holmes

You also have to remember that we did try to re-sign May.
Nadolo wasn't viewed as his replacement when we signed him.

May saying the offer was good enough to consider it.

That is true, could be possible that Moroni is viewed as a replacement for May then?

Great signings, on paper at least. I'm excited about the re-start and seeing the new boys in action. Moroni is a very astute signing imho, looking forward to him joining in the near future.

I think we could do without the Manu jibes though, he hasn't done anything wrong other than look for the best deal for him. Move on, I say.
I saw Marika Vunibaka play

Moroni became available when the Jags hit problems from the Pandemic so I had assumed he was brought in as Manu's replacement. Murimurivalu found himself without a contract in France due to the new French qualified rules. Perhaps he was envisaged as the Holmes or May replacement. If that was the case and we initially intended to pair him with TV and Nadolo then it is a shame TV left as that would have been awesome. Then again he is about the perfect replacement for TV.

McGinity is a smart cookie and whilst he couldn't have foreseen all of the issues with contracts and Covid, I'd be surprised if he isn't constantly modelling different scenarios of who might be needed. Obviously it is a constantly changing picture but you never know with player injuries on top of that what resources might be needed at any time.

When you hear of rumours about who we might have signed - say for example Alemanno - there might have been conversations going on behind the scenes in case he was required. As it turned out he went to Glaws so I guess that chip was never cashed in.

I'm still hoping for another couple of new signings in the pack - maybe a quality prop and a specialist number 8?

Good work by McGinity and the club, that's for sure. I echo the sentiments about the importance of now having far fewer players away on international duty for half the season. I think there was a hint of arrogance in assembling a squad with so many England players - "we'll be in the playoffs regardless then all our stars will come back in and we'll win everything".

Funny what you hear. I’d heard that May had originally been offered a big contract from Saracens. We then signed Nadolo as his replacement. Obviously the Saracens contract then fell through with the scandal and we tabled him another offer.....

Whether true or not I have no idea......

Popcorn in full flow today - Good signings and another positive step. :smt023

One question, as the release says Moroni has to see out his contractual obligations with the Jaguares first when can we expect to see him playing at WR??

Another raft of excellent signings! Van Wyk will turn out to be a very astute pickup, he's really kicked on during the Aotearoa competition and is keeping Wes Goosen on the bench for the Hurricanes.

Didn’t someone say Huw Jones was a lock to come? Reckon another midfielder, number 8 and a prop and it’s game on down Welford Road again!
