Re: Players asked to take pay cuts!
If there had been no wage cup, for all these years, several premiership clubs would have been busy years ago.
Tigers accepted the cap when we were comparatively rich because we recognised that we would have been league title holder against nobody.
Then the rich owners came in and flouted the laws which meant it forced wages up and was dangerous for many clubs including our own. This rebalance either happens or Saracens will be back up next year winning by beating their own 2nd team

From the BBC:
“England centre Manu Tuilagi is one of six players to have been told to look for another club by Leicester Tigers, reports BBC Radio Leicester.
Several players, including 29-year-old British and Irish Lion Tuilagi, have been locked in a contract dispute with the Premiership strugglers.
Players have been offered amended deals because of the financial implications of the coronavirus outbreak.
Greg Bateman, Telusa Veainu and Jordan Taufua are also set to be released.
It is understood the club made a compromise offer, but the players want to keep their legal position.
On 8 June, Premiership teams unanimously agreed to reduce the salary cap from £6.4m to £5m to help cope with the losses incurred as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Only 75% of wages from deals signed before 18 June will count towards the salary cap from the start of the 2021-22 season.
That deadline has passed but Leicester's players have been given until Tuesday to make their decisions and the club remain in communication with all of the playing squad.”

Re: Players asked to take pay cuts!
Andrea Pinchen May have kept some people happy with her interview, the legal representatives of Manu amongst them. By naming the players who had not accepted the revised remuneration packages, she may have breached confidentiality clauses.
This could be very expensive for the club who may be ordered to pay damages as well as making up the salary difference for players who find work elsewhere.
Simon Cohen would not have made this mistake. Who advised Andrea on the finer points of contract law?

MAY being the key word.
I doubt it exists given players already leaked who was going.

Re: Players asked to take pay cuts!
The club really can't win, it is widely known through the press that and social media comment from players who had not signed up to the new deals and yet our C.E.O is supposedly wrong for mentioning those names. She is also being criticised for not mentioning Taufua who we are getting conflicting reports about, the general opinion being that he is going but has not yet advised the club or is still discussing the situation. It really is a case of being damned if you do and damned if you don't.
Re: Players asked to take pay cuts!
If they want to go down this route, Tigers will jump all over the player who leaked privileged information to The Mail 5 minutes after the conversation, who Andrea did not name.fleabane wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 10:19 am Andrea Pinchen May have kept some people happy with her interview, the legal representatives of Manu amongst them. It makes me smile all the internet lawyers who think Tigers will not have consulted their legal team before making any statements, but the players will have done
Come on ladies and gents let’s use some common sense
Re: Players asked to take pay cuts!
Agree. The club taking the decision regarding the 5 may just focus Tuafua's mind and make him realise the club are serious and will not be pushed around. The delay in news on him may be the result of said mind-focussingjohnthegriff wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 12:08 pm The club really can't win, it is widely known through the press that and social media comment from players who had not signed up to the new deals and yet our C.E.O is supposedly wrong for mentioning those names. Players and their leaking is one thing. The chief executive making it public is another. The Times quotes a leading employment law specialist making the point I have repeated. He’s not an internet lawyer, and neither am I. Simon Cohen is a contract law specialist.

Re: Players asked to take pay cuts!
the names were in the public domain as soon as anyone leaked them. Once the talks had concluded the CEO had every right to name those who had decided not to take the revised contracts the same as the club will have to publish the names of all contracted players at some stage
Re: Players asked to take pay cuts!
I’m far from a legal expert, but that’s my point. The deadline had passed negotiations were over and everyone knew who was involved at that point there was no confidentiality.GETHIN EXILE wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 1:29 pm the names were in the public domain as soon as anyone leaked them. I get the point the lawyer in the Times makes, but the Tigers will have cleared with their own legal team it was ok to release the names, the fact that Cohen is a contract law specialist is irrelevant
Re: Players asked to take pay cuts!
Some of the agitation may be due to one or other of the 5 thinking they could come back for a second bite after the 5pm deadline; the club announcing those who opted not to be part of the future makes that more difficult.Mark62 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 1:44 pmI’m far from a legal expert, but that’s my point. Re: Players asked to take pay cuts!
May have but very unlikely. Standard confidentially clauses will be around both player and club obligations to not "disclose any privileged or confidential information obtained during the Player's employment save to any professional advisers". Releasing their name as leaving the club is not breaching confidentially, it's stating fact.
They had the opportunity to agree new contracts, didn't, so are free to leave and have been advising as doing so.

Re: Players asked to take pay cuts!
For some people on here that is beyond them. The club is a major company and will have taken appropriate legal / HR advice. It would need to in order to comply and remain legal.
I think some think that the Club is still being run from The George Hotel by a few blokes round a pint
Re: Players asked to take pay cuts!
The Telegraph, Friday afternoon:
“ A weekend of last-minute deliberations may yet see Manu Tuilagi remain a Leicester Tigers player.
The Daily Telegraph understands that there has been a ‘change of heart’ amongst those involved in the discussions and there is some hope that the next 48 hours may see the 20-year Tuilagi family connection with Leicester continue.
Monday is the cut-off day for any reconciliation as Tigers have issued the five players intent on rejecting amended terms with notice that there is no way back for them. Tuilagi is among that quintet but such is his value as a player that the Lions and England centre has been cut some slack.
However, there are stumbling blocks to any resolution, primarily the fact that the new management team at Tigers, head coach Steve Borthwick and director of rugby Geordan Murphy, have to be persuaded that Tuilagi is worth the effort of a re-jigging of recruitment plans that have been in place for some time now.
The 29 year-old is the stand-out name from those on the brink of an exit from Welford Road. Other clubs in the Premiership have been sounded out with a view to sorting a cut-price deal for Tuilagi for the remainder of the 2019-2020 season, which is due to re-start in mid-August, but no firm deal has been in the offing. Leicester are in line with all their Premiership rivals in implementing pay cuts of around 25 per cent.
Tuilagi’s salary is in the region of £500,000 a year but legal advice indicates that any player who has been obliged to take a pay-cut has the right to seek redress from the club for breach of contract. That process would be lengthy and tangled.”
Clearly not as straightforward as the majority on here think!
