Here are the Scotland players that are likely for selection in my view:

I would say
  • Hogg
  • Johnson
  • McInally (My candidate for a midweek captain)
  • Russell
  • Sutherland
Maybe one of Graham, Maitland and Kinghorn too.

Yes, I actually quite like him as a player, very dynamic and athletic.

1.Mako
2.George
3.Sinckler/Furlong
4.
5.Itoje
6.Underhill
7.Curry
8.
9.
10.
11. Adams
12.
13.
14.May
15.Hogg
Definitely take both Kamikase kids but if Navidi is the 8 a different type of 6 is needed someone of Stander's ilk, also I'm not too confident on Underhill being fit. I don't think Mako should go personally.

I fully expect Doris to kick past Stander in the Irish set up and into the Lions reckoning

The 9,10,12,13 is the real conundrum. Manu definitely starts if fit but at 12 or 13? Dont be surprised if Ford doesn't travel!

I'd hope Hamish Watson goes. For me he's the best openside in the home nations. Great over the ball and bounces through contact. If he played for any if the other Lions nations he'd be considered a certainty instead he tends to carry Scotland a bit in the loose.

A Curry/Watson flanker combination with one of the big 8s on offer would be preferable for me. Lots of tackles, breakdown work and clever carrying there. Any of Doris, Conan, Stander, Vunipola or Falatau depending on form and fitness can offer some heavy duty work from the base in support.

Forwards wise they are going to have to fight power with power
Front towers are going to have to be able to scrummage so possibly the likes of Cowan-Dickie and Furlong
2nd rows mobile but also guys who will stand their ground and not get intimidated Itoje and Ryan maybe
Need a big mobile 6 to try and counter PST a proper 7 and a rugged no.8. Navidi, Curry and Billy V if he’s fit

At nine if you have Cooney and Gareth Davies with someone like Murray or Youngs that should do nicely. But against de Klerk, Reinach and Jantijies we are disadvantaged regardless on the scrumhalf front.

Hamish Watson is the best openside in the British Isles but I have serious concerns over his fitness.

I think the 9s could well be Webb, Davies and Cooney
10s Biggar Sexton and Farrell travelling mainly as a 12 who covers 10

Sexton isn't in good form, no point in taking him in my view. Webb now has the chance in the next year to prove himself.

At this point you’re right but who knows what is going to happen in the next 12 months, there will be at least a couple of bolters that no one is talking about at the moment

Mako?
Wouldn’t start for England let alone the Lions. Never a great scrummager but has lost his effectiveness in the loose that was his strength in the quest for scrummaging power.

I would like a Tiger bolter, possibly someone like van Poortvliet or Steward? We all thought Genge could have been one back in 2017 but it probably was for the best he went to Argentina instead.
