In my view there is a line, yes we need to be looking after our most vulnerable but we need to ensure that the economy doesn’t go tits up.

Adam Whitty on Twitter saying that matches won’t be rescheduled and listed as a 0-0 draw similar to the Rugby World Cup, so make that every team will be getting 8-10 points.

Practically the economy is already on hold, it's just that it hasn't yet quite sunk in to the minds of those who are used to making big profits!

The way things are going then at this point I'd assume that the season is over.
The government is prioritising big business over people and that in my opinion is a national disgrace and potentially catastrophic for so many.
I can understand schools being kept open to a certain extent, many kids rely on school meals and many emergency workers will not be able to attend work if their children are off school etc, but billions of pounds will be pumped into big business of which billionaires profit and yet there has not been a peep from the government regarding the suspension of utility bills, rents, loans, mortgages etc.
Apologies if I’m being naive but why do utility bills etc need to go on hold. People are still going to work and getting paid aren’t they?

Nice profit to be made selling private beds to the NHS. The real society at work there. All in it together, well the bulk of us are. Although evidence of collective responsibility and sense of community evidenced by people stripping the shops bare is somewhat contradictory.

Working from home- still get paid
Redundancies/zero hours workers- most utility companies can help people if they can’t pay their bill. It’s not great I know but it’s an option.

There will be far more hidden "socialism for the rich" already going on. The failure to close pubs, restaurants etc could mean the end of most as they can't access insurance, despite the populace being told to stay away.
In Lichfield and Burntwood local 'loser' party members have started a community volunteer system, people from most or no other party joining in. A notable absentee is our local MP, the extravagantly bewigged Michael Fabricant (Con, in more ways than one).

Sadly 55 deaths now but with a touted low end estimate of 50k infected thats a 0.11% mortality rate. Id hazard a guess that theres more likely to be 150k infected.

Sadly not a realistic estimate. You need to calculate the deaths now to the number infected about 14 days ago as it takes a while for people to die. Look at the data from China and South Korea where new infections are fairly flat for both confirmed infections and deaths. China CFR (Case Fatality Rate) 3.7%, South Korea 0.9%. South Korea is interesting as it has a high incidence of testing and contact tracking, something we don't do much of here. The differing rates probably reflect Improvements in patient management which is ok until available resources are swamped which is why slowing the rate is vital. The UK is currently doubling confirmed cases every 3 days reflecting our lack of effective action so far.

JP14 wrote: Mon Mar 16, 2020 2:46 pm I appreciate that the age demographic of this forum means a lot of posters are concerned about their health however when the Chief Medical Officer amongst other officials clearly express that the lockdown of areas like schools is not beneficial then I don’t see the necessity in the prolonged postponement of the league for more than four weeks.
Apologies if this has been responded to but if you don't think that schools are going to close imminently or that the mitigation strategy which was largely shouted down globally was mislead then this picture will change in the coming days.

FWIW the previous strategy suggested over 250,000 dead at the last time of asking. We can go without a bit of sport for this period.

Relief should be available anywhere possible and with utilities being a large for profit industry there is plenty of room for manoeuvre.
No not all people are working, leisure, entertainment, sports, travel etc.
