Sorry Mark62, but you're wrong, Brits is much better than Thacker. I know Brits didn't win many caps, but Thacker hasn't even played once for the Springboks - even at age group level! Also Brits has an awards ceremony named after him in the music industry, what's Thacker done for music? Nothing, that's what.

I’m wrong about what. I’ve not tried to compare the players quality just that they are both unorthodox.Tiglon wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 6:51 pm Sorry Mark62, but you're wrong, Brits is much better than Thacker. Of course Brits was the better player, where have I said he wasn’t, but he wasn’t a stereotypical hooker which I think affected the number of caps he gained.
Please show me where I’ve said Thacker is the better player

My apologies if it wasn't understood, that was a joke. You have very clearly never stated that Thacker is better.
I hoped that the ridiculous comparisons (e.g. Thacker hasn't even played for the Springboks) and the "safety wink" would have communicated the attempt at humour.

You look at our backs and I don’t think Lozowski would be worth the investment. Great player but if the backs don’t get any quality ball, the last few seasons have shown even with a star studded back line they can’t do anything.
Woolstencroft and Isiekwe would be my top priority. Both come from a culture of winning big games and would jump straight into our starting XV. Also we could offer them more money than they’re probably on now.
You think even London Irish have Coleman and Botha on the books, lock is still somewhere we could do with upgrading.

Botha is only a loan signing LTT, but your point still stands.

We need a better squad quality, the flexibility of Lozowski will give us that and at his peak in 2018 was England’s top outside centre (outplayed Slade in the final and Manu was still working his way back to fitness). For me Latu would be a better player than Wooselncroft but Isiekwe should be a target as well.

Totally agree that Isiekwe would be excellent, but with Kopoku rumoured to be off to Saints and Skeleton back to Australia eventually I can’t see him leavingJP14 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2019 8:51 am We need a better squad quality, the flexibility of Lozowski will give us that and at his peak in 2018 was England’s top outside centre (outplayed Slade in the final and Manu was still working his way back to fitness). A lot of these players being talked about could well be regulars in the England squad very soon and most have proven themselves at the top end of the Premiership. They'll be looking for a big pay rise at the end of this season and there will be plenty of competition for them.
Where we put our money all depends on what happens with our current players at the end of the season.
Hooker: What will Tom Youngs do? Will Kerr be good enough to be 1st choice? Woolstencroft would be a good signing and I can't imagine would expect more than Tom Youngs or TPN.
Lock: It's Lavanini +1 as starters. Will Spencer stake his claim? Can Green reproduce his Falcons form? Will any of the kids break through? If it's no to all of those then we will have to look elsewhere, but I fear Isiekwe would be expensive and I'm not so sure he'll be keen to leave Sarries.
I can see Lozowski looking for close to Ford level money if he leaves Sarries, and I don't see how we could afford that unless George does depart.

then he'll be unemployed as no one in the league will pay him that level of money, he simply isn't good enough to command it

According to the Rugby Paper Jan McGinty flew to South america and had talks with Argentine lock Matias Alemanno.
Also said Tigers raised their Ford contract offer to 600K to match Bristol's.
lavanini and Alemanno would be a interesting pairing having a combined Argentine caps of 100+

Would be a good signing, now if he could just sign Matera as well.....RagingBull wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 12:56 am According to the Rugby Paper Jan McGinty flew to South america and had talks with Argentine lock Matias Alemanno.

To win is not as important as playing with style!

100+ caps and nearly 40 stone. That'd be some second row to support our props and make their presence felt in the loose. Lavanini has been very good since he arrived.RagingBull wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 12:56 am According to the Rugby Paper Jan McGinty flew to South america and had talks with Argentine lock Matias Alemanno.

Alemanno is a tall unit, however forgive my banging on about this over the last couple of seasons but I feel like Guido Petti would add so much more to our pack.
Does this mean that Spencer is on the off?

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2019/20 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD PART 2
Or maybe we just want more depth and quality. Green has been solid but hasn't brought the lineout strength we hoped and doesn't make much impact in the loose. Spencer tends to be injured a fair bit so I can't see us rushing to meet his every contractual demand. It's doesn't look like Jordan or Martin are going to immediately push their way into the first team.
With TPN likely to be released and rumours of Tom Youngs retiring there should be some cap to spend even if we bring in another hooker or two. We probably won't be signing high profile internationals. We have Kerr and can get good value for money with someone like Cooper from Falcons or Woolstencroft from Sarries, they certainly won't cost as much as either of the options on the way out.
