Re: Tigers vs Gloucester
I'm not meaning to be harsh on Hardwick, but I don't think you can argue that he isn't in the same class as the fly half on the other team this weekend. Olowofela simply isn't good enough yet, and may never be. Short stocky players sometimes prove that the small guys can succeed in rugby, but the tall skinny ones like Jordan haven't got a chance. If he doesn't improve his strength, he'll never make it, sorry.
Refell might have made all his tackles on Sunday, and well done to him, but that doesn't prove he's at Premiership standard yet. How many of those tackles was he dominant in? How many was he pushed back 5 yards? The modern game isn't about making tackles, it's about making dominant tackles - that's why no one tackles the ankles any more unless it's the last resort.

If your line speed is good enough then chop tackles are still a great way to stop a player behind the gain line, force the opposition to retreat before clearing the ruck, hence buy time to attack the ball. Mako Vunipola is an outstanding exponent of this.Tiglon wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 5:10 pmRefell might have made all his tackles on Sunday, and well done to him, but that doesn't prove he's at Premiership standard yet. I've been hugely impressed with Reffell. His reading of the breakdown is excellent as is his communication and organisation in fringe defence. Something Tigers have lacked since Salvi left in my opinion.
He hasn't shown much in attack yet but with the lack of attacking shape none of the squad has in these two fixtures.

Re: Tigers vs Gloucester
Can’t blame you for thinking that on current showings for Tigers. You watch the likes of Heyes, Reffell, White, Hardwick and Olowofela in their national U20s team and they’re all players with massive potential. Here’s the crux of the matter, we’re just improving the younger talent as well as other teams. We never even played Will Evans and now he’s starting for Harlequins.Tiglon wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2019 5:10 pm I'm not meaning to be harsh on Hardwick, but I don't think you can argue that he isn't in the same class as the fly half on the other team this weekend. Will Evans, 19 tackles against Bristol I think for them, missed none. 2 turnovers. Quins fans saying he’s look just as good as Robshaw next to him, could be their signing of the season.
Take Hardwick. When he played for U20 I thought him and Grayson were on par potential wise. Now Grayson is playing very well for Saints albeit in a better team. But without clear coaching and structure, how are our younger players supposed to improve.
Olowofela is about the same build as May or Watson. Given the right conditioning he’ll be fine at this level. We really need to be concerting our England U20 contingent into Tigers star players.

Re: Tigers vs Gloucester
Three Tigers that got away are likely to be in the Gloucester squad, Balmain, Twelvetrees and Slater, and will not need much motivation to hammer another nail into the coffin.
Unless something dramatic happens, I can't see many Tigers' supporters going home with smiling faces at 5 o'clock on Saturday.

Love the arm chair picks.....almost like Stuart Barnes trying to influence England selection. Murph will pick who he likes, with the inevitable wild card, and we'll be left to bemoan another heavy defeat.
It's not who we have on the pitch. The issue is that the team is not greater than the sum of its parts. It's not personnel, it's personality. It's not the DNA of the individual but that of the club.
Hugo gushed over the "Saracens DNA" last week. That used to be us.
Posh Richard is licking his lips in anticipation of several free beers, one per try is the usual tarif. I'm not looking forward to being out of pocket.

Yes Dai - but think how much you'll be saving on Remy again this season.
Nowadays referees decide matches, players by how much.

An unwelcome truth GK.....but I would like the odd pint in this particular wager!

Re: Tigers vs Gloucester
Yep, we had it but it went a long time ago. How difficult is it to get something similar going again ? Exeter have tried...they have a decent coach and a clear vision but still aren’t winning the big prizes. Sarries have been through the mill, built something special and Saturday proves it’s working across the board. It’s a long road back for Tigers. Maybe Mr B can be the start....

I now know the Tigers way.
Let the opposition defence set.
Delay ball to the pack and move metre by metre till you knock on. Kick to the opposition and complain about the standard of refs.
But we are fitter than last season

"However, that controversially includes the Tigers' next game against Northampton Saints in the Premiership Rugby Cup on Saturday, meaning he will be back in time to face Gloucester."

Re: Tigers vs Gloucester
He received a four match ban on 7 oct. He missed the final Argentinian game which meant he needed to miss 3 tigers games.
Since when we have played Saints, Worcester and Sarries.
By my maths that means he is free to play against Glos
