PRC Round 1 - Warriors vs Tigers

Post by JP14 »

Minus new wing Ed Fidow and hooker Joe Taufete’e (USA) Worcester can name their strongest side possible this Friday and I will be surprised if they don’t.

I agree with Murphy using the Premiership Rugby Cup as preseason, but momentum is a wonderful thing.

I’m gonna go with:

1 Bateman
2 Kerr
3 Leatigaga
4 Green
5 Wells
6 Lavin
7 Coghlan
8 Boladau
9 Simmons
10 McPhilips
11 Browning
12 Reid
13 Taute
14 Viljoen
15 Steward
16 Youngs
17 Gigena
18 Cortes
19 Jordan
20 Liebenberg
21 Law
22 Eastmond
23 Worth

No real captain in your starting 15 so would expect Youngs to start.
Back row I’d like to see is 6 Coghlan, 7 Reiffel, 8 Liebenberg.

Browning for me isn’t quite there so would like to see Holmes in the back 3

Away games in the PRC should be used to rotate the squad and get players game time. Home games should see something closer to the first team as we need to take every game at WR seriously until the fortress reputation is reinstated.

Vs Wuss;

1. Gigena
2. TPN
3. Cortes
4. Wells
5. Green
6. Lavin
7 Coghlan
8. Boladu
9. White
10. McPhillips
11. Steward
12. Hardwick
13. Thomas
14. Vijeon
15. Worth

16. Kerr, 17. Bateman, 18. Heyes, 19. Jordan, 20. Reffell, 21. Simmonds, 22. Eastmond, 23. Thompstone

Then for the home game the week after;

1. Bateman
2. Youngs
3. Leitagaga
4. Spencer
5. Green
6. Thompson
7. Reffell
8. Leibenburg
9. Harrison
10. Reid
11. Owolfela
12. Eastmond
13. Taute
14. SAP
15. Holmes

16. Kerr, 17. Gigena, 18. Heyes, 19. Lewis, 20. Coghlan, 21. Simmonds, 22. McPhillips, 23. Thompstone.

Thompstone will need to be eased in after being out for so long. Otherwise that gets most players decent game time before the season starts proper.

Re Liebenberg he has a shorter preseason and looks like he is on holiday according to his social media, so that’s what I presumed him and also Heyes won’t play this weekend.

4 games before the GP kicks off. Everyone gets a run out in games 1 and 2 then you start putting combinations together in game 3 before playing your gun team in game 4. You can't count for niggles and knocks but I'd go that route.

Really not sure how you can judge Browning as not there yet based on 1 sevens showing?

RE Captain I think Wells could do a good job as captain in a team like that.

Just my opinion on Browning. Still seems positionally naive, yes I think 7s is relevant for that, and his pace and strength is not quite the advantage when he isn’t playing against other 18 year olds.
We shall see I may be proved wrong

Mark is right, Browning’s defence is a work on but by no means should hold him back as he cannot improve without experience.

For one!

I don’t think that will be the final XV, but there’ll still be leadership - and a leader - within that group.
