We’re 99% sure it was the guy RB said (Boladau) but he hasn’t been announced. It’s not clear as to whether he’s being trialled or he is being signed as I haven’t seen him in any training photos since.

There is "no progression" on Dave Denton's condition, says Murphy.

Denton has been out since October with concussion.

"We need to look after him to the best of our ability. He’s seeing some specialists in the coming weeks and hopefully that will enable us to progress with that."

Such a shame for Denton. He was in really strong form prior to the injury. Given how his form slumped at Bath it's an even bigger shame for the concussion to strike just as he was rediscovering his best.

If a player doesn't play a single game in a salary cap season then they can be exempt from the cap but still on the clubs wage bill. I expect this is what will happen with Denton for the coming season at least. He will remain at the club continuing his recovery but a replacement will be brought in using the his salary that will be exempt from the cap.

Presumably that's why we were looking at Smit but he's now signed up elsewhere.

It’s a really unfortunate situation. From the club’s point of view, at least being a RWC year there will be a few people looking for a NH contract post tournament.

Doesn’t help DD though.

He’s been pictured doing PR work hasn’t he.
I must admit if it was me, no matter how much I love the game, I would now be looking at other avenues both inside and outside the game.
Whatever happens best of luck to him for the future but I fear that we will never see him playing in a tigers shirt again.

Maybe a bolter will come from the World Cup although I see that Isa hasn’t been selected for the Pumas

Isa is at Toulon. I suspect that had an impact on his non-selection as well.

This would be probably mean the signing of Boladau, as Kalamafoni will be playing during the WC and even though Tonga won’t progress he will need a break. Couple this with the absense of Denton and Taufua for the start of the season.

This would leave us a backrow of
Reffell
Thompson
Boladau

Forgetting Liebenberg and Coghlan, imagine they would play 6 and 7 with Thompson at 8. That would be our strongest backrow given the call ups and injuries.

Is Liebenberg not available then Jp14, and Coghlan must be in with a shout too

The squad as a whole is actually well set to cover many of the RWC absentees. Bateman and Gigena covering Genge, Heyes and Cortes covering Cole, talented young half-backs to cover for Youngs and Ford, Taute as a midfield carrier in Manu's absence.

1.Bateman 2.Kerr 3.Heyes 4.Spencer 5.Green 6.Reffell 7.Thompson 8.Liebenberg
9.Harrison 10.McPhillips 11.Holmes 12.Reid 13.Taute 14.Viljeon 15.Worth

16.Youngs 17.Gigena 18.Cortes 19.Wells 20.Lewis 21.Simmons 22.Hardwick 23.Eastmond

Plus TPN, Leatigaga, Coghlan, White, Thomas and Aspland-Robinson. It's a shame that both Olowofela and Thompstone might miss the start of the season given that May and Veainu will be at the RWC.

The season starting with the PRC means several of the development squad could push for places as well. Costelow, Steward and new man Kyran Bungaroo in the backs for instance.

The back row is the most pressed but if Liebenberg is available then it's in a good enough place. Reffell is definitely ready to start in the PRC and Lewis is a talent at blindside.
