This world - happens all the time.

Most CEOs welcome the chance to talk confidentially outside the accountability line and to gain independent perspectives. It’s often a requirement of a CEO’s personal development plan (yes, they have those too). The day you stop learning and challenging yourself....

A young player gets coached - everyone happy.

A young coach gets mentored - people up in arms.

I've mentored CEOs, MDs etc, all of whom were happy to admit they benefited from an independent guide, confidant and counsellor. Nothing unusual here, guys!
The point, which you've obviously missed, is that GM is the head coach not a junior or assistant coach. In what world does the boss get mentored?
I couldn't put it better than this:

I'd add that a mentor can often help control emotions and stop people making wild assumptions. Had you thought of being mentored yourself?

What emotions have I lost control of and what wild assumptions have I made?

And you think I need mentoring? :smt043

"The point, which you've obviously missed..."

You 'play the man not the ball' (emotion) and you 'assume' I've missed the fact that Smurf is Head Coach. Subtle, nuanced observations but - that's what mentors spot! :smt003

Seems you are now more straw clutching than straw clearing :smt002 We'll leave it there (for now) I don't have time to discuss nuanced semantics today.

Question. Why appoint a head coach who needs mentoring? Totally barmy imo. :smt017 :smt017

The answer is probably in the Google definition of mentor!

I don't get it - why are some happy to complain about the club, the coaches, the players and everything else about the club? I've already read one poster saying he is taking his t.v. subscription elsewhere because he isn't happy with the club trying to make changes in an effort to improve.

Give Murphy and the new regime a chance, or just go find another club to criticise!

Pat Howard has made some recommendations for change and the board want to make sure they are implemented. The term to mentor Murphy may be to help with the implementation of these changes and support Murphy in his development.

I really wish folk would read topics through properly before being judgemental!
Its pretty obvious on that topic (Ringfencing Finally Here?) that I did state that I'll still attend Leicester, 8th post if you are struggling!

Incredibly short-sighted.
Taking a longer term view that a head coach will continue to develop and improve, with a old-head alongside to support that development, is a model that works elsewhere - so why not in rugby?

Agreed it was incredibly short-sighted to appoint a totally inexperienced head coach.
