Re: Daryl Gibson steps down from Waratahs
Could he work here?
Was very successful, always had that backline but with no real Number 8 and no depth in the pack they have struggled recently. Seems like an ideal appointment for the board to make.

I wouldn't be looking to hire him based on his Tahs and Crusaders coaching
Re: Daryl Gibson steps down from Waratahs
Would be an ideal appointment so don't expect Tigers to move for him.

He'd be an excellent pickup as attack coach but can't see him swapping continents for that.

Yeh just part of 2 Super rugby winning coaching teams......
IMO Gibson is a very very good Backs Coach who was out of his depth at Head Coach especially in a country that is struggling to at all levels.
If Cheika was to come (Which I doubt) I wouldn't mind having Gibson with him as Backs coach.

I didn't think he won anything at the Crusaders?RagingBull wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2019 10:24 amYeh just part of 2 Super rugby winning coaching teams......

First season as Saders backs coach in 2008.
Re: Daryl Gibson steps down from Waratahs
I thought he joined as part of Blackadders team replacing Deans who left after the 08 final

Re: Daryl Gibson steps down from Waratahs
So did I but according to this.
"In the first season of his new career as a backs coach, Gibson also helped Robbie Deans steer the Crusaders to victory in 2008 over his current employers, the Waratahs."
https://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/ru ... cc921aa893
and
He was an assistant coach of the Crusaders the last time they won a Super Rugby title in 2008, Robbie Deans’ last year with the franchise. He was also an assistant coach with the Waratahs last season when they won their first Super Rugby title.

But then Rugby Aussie press like this country might make up half the stuff who knows.
Still played a big part in Waratahs getting their first Super rugby title so not sure why his backs coaching at them would put someone off.

I think he would make a great "backs" coach for us, but as someone said, I can't envisage him coming so far for the job.

Re: Daryl Gibson steps down from Waratahs
Gibson is a semi regular to leicester, at least he seems to be, pretty sure he was in Leicester last autumn.
If Larkham moved from Aus to be the Munster Attack coach see no reason why he wouldn't.
He's also good friends with Murphy.
But this is all just spitting in the dark.

Re: Daryl Gibson steps down from Waratahs
I saw him at the Ricoh when we played Wasps. Dressed low key in a hoodie and rucksack, and he was just sat on his own in the stadium, not with the Tigers entourage. He said he was just over visiting Geordie.
Ignoring the ‘ex Leicester’ bias, he has at least been and made his name elsewhere as coach in his own right. Would this make a decent setup
Head coach - Murphy
Attack coach - Gibson
Defence coach - Ford
Forwards coach - Borthwick or Booth
Scrum coach - Stankovich

Re: Daryl Gibson steps down from Waratahs
The conspiracy theorist in me says that Gustard and Borthwick are being sent out to club rugby to get more experience before coming back to take the England job. Thoughts?

Re: Daryl Gibson steps down from Waratahs
That would mean forward thinking/planning by the old farts, not sure they're capable of that!
