Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2019/20 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD
If I was to guess the academy players coming up it would be
100%
Whitecombe, Martin, Eveleigh, Costelow, Guilliand, Browning, Steward
Most likely as well.
Ashworth, Law/Van Poortvelt (Reckon both might still be here), Du Rant, Manz
I think they are the ones with the best chances of getting the senior contracts.

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2019/20 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD
Indeed .What must Bristol be thinking of looking at a player with ability , tenacity and proven leadership qualities !!
Tell me , do you really believe with players such as AW Jones in our ranks we would be where we are now ?
Cant see your issue with him.

Him being bullied by Botha and Matfield and Shaw having to save him is ingrained in my memory! He's been a good leader in a team packed with leaders but as a player imo he's one of the most overrated ever and better players have missed out on Lions tours because of him. As for Wales they are not exactly producing locks aplenty and the best one of this era imo was Evans.

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2019/20 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD
He's been pretty successful in the lions tour and played a big part in them.
Started all the tests in the NZ tour which they drew.
started all the tests in Aus which they Won
He was also a 23 year old lock up against prob the nastiest lock of all time in Botha who was in his prime at 29 for a lock, and Matfield who was one of the best tactical locks.
Evans the same :censored: who basically finished Ellis's career that Evans? or a different one?

I did not know the injury finished Ellis. No excuses,I do know he met Ellis personally to apologize to him while Henson elbowed and assaulted our prop in the same game and pleading not guilty and wasn't bothered one bit.

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2019/20 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD
with the best will in the world that was all but a decade ago and since then there have been three Lions tours , now the world most capped lock and about to become the most capped player in Welsh history. He may indeed be overrated (in your opinion) but that holds true to a great many other sportsmen , and for that matter people in general.Such a slight to an (obviously) great player - in my opinion of course - does very little justice to both AWJ and indeed , youeself.Scott1 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 09, 2019 1:48 pm Him being bullied by Botha and Matfield and Shaw having to save him is ingrained in my memory! That may be so but everyone is entitled to their opinion whether they agree with you or not

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2019/20 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD
Undoubtedly he’s a successful player, but he’s probably past his prime, has barely player for Ospreys and is in a position where marquee signings aren’t a priority, I know de Villiers who ended up barely playing for us did really well behind the scenes but should we paying the big bucks for that kind of player?

Yes RB you are correct however Jones was preferred over Itoje which arguably lost us the series in New Zealand and went at the expense of Joe Launchbury who at the time was playing better rugby than Jones at the time and I would argue still is a better lock-forward, but experience and leadership will forever be used disguise the fact he is an overrated, privileged player who at the end of the day is just Gatland’s teacher’s pet.

Arguably I don't think it did.JP14 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 09, 2019 5:14 pm Yes RB you are correct however Jones was preferred over Itoje which arguably lost us the series in New Zealand and went at the expense of Joe Launchbury who at the time was playing better rugby than Jones at the time and I would argue still is a better lock-forward, but experience and leadership will forever be used disguise the fact he is an overrated, privileged player who at the end of the day is just Gatland’s teacher’s pet.
What does privileged mean in this context?

Re: LEICESTER TIGERS 2019/20 SQUAD/TRANSFERS/CONTRACT THREAD
Who says we'd be paying big bucks. There isn't a marquee spot free and we wouldn't need to spend that kind of money. The WRU and the Regions are currently in turmoil over the contracting of internationals so AWJ is sat twiddling his thumbs. The French are being cautious over signing aging players likely to be at the world cup hence Kearney having to accept a much lower contract to stay at Leinster and SOB openly admitting there was no other offers close to what LI offered him.JP14 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 09, 2019 5:08 pm Undoubtedly he’s a successful player, but he’s probably past his prime, has barely player for Ospreys and is in a position where marquee signings aren’t a priority, I know de Villiers who ended up barely playing for us did really well behind the scenes but should we paying the big bucks for that kind of player?
It may well be in AWJ's interest to take a first team wage at Tigers (the kind of wage Fitz and BOC were on) for next season and then look at his situation again the season after.
