What about Newby for the defence and breakdown role? He would be a good addition to the staff.
I'd only have him in for Brett, which is probably unfair on Brett as hes not actually been able to do the role he was originally hired for.
Would love us to bring in O'Gara as backs coach. Would give us a really good, young but with a fair bit of experience coaching set up we could re build around.

If we didn't approach Rowntree id love to know the reasons why.
Borthwick all but confirmed though.
Rowntree didn't have the best time at Quins. There's also a lot of negativity around our tendency to hire those with links to the club. Rowntree's specialisation is scrums and we have Boris.
Borthwick is possibly a better fit. His specialisation being lineouts (we need help there). He has experience in the ferocious Sarries defence and his coaching tends to bring very intense forward performances.

So given all the recent media, I can’t see the coaching set up changing much. Probably Blake leaving with Ford taking over defence. Stanko and Bakewell remaining with Murphy head coach. No DOR.
there is a perception that our lineout is rubbish whilst the stats show it is one of the best in the Premiership. Take out a few bad throws by Polata Nau and it was possibly the best. Our drive and maul from the lineout could do with improvement and at the breakdown we seem to fall foul of referees, I am not sure whether that is our fault or the refs.
As I have said in other posts, I would like to see Geordan and the coaching team he wants given a chance, with a pre-season and new squad members before making radical changes to the coaching set-up
Sorry Dangerous, I understand a Remy is a cure for cold blood!

To be fair swapping Borthwick and Ford in for Bakewell and Blake, already our coaching set up is better.
Still without that extra coach, though.
DoR: Geordan Murphy
HC/Forwards: Steve Borthwick
Scrum: Boris Stankovich
Defense/Attack: Mike Ford
Assistant coach: Brett Deacon
Could do with a backs/skills coach to round it off.
Strange seeing on paper two brilliant coaches working under a DoR who is historically our most disastrous coach ever. How can Murphy direct something he has no pedigree in? Blind or one-eyed faith is not going to be enough at top level, but i guess we'll have to wait and see.
I have to agree. Is the club being too loyal to Murphs? He is clearly struggling, and is it right that others have to prop him up?

You just made my blood run cold!
That was like a week ago, to be honest I don’t think anyone knows what’s going at the moment. Firstly the mercury was stating that the coaching group would change. Then said Murphy was happy with the current setup. Yet we’ve been linked to Cheika and now Borthwick so it would seem we are still in the market. Who knows?
Bakewell has been here long enough to be sure he shouldn't be staying. Our forward play has been what nearly got us relegated.
Impotent in attack and ponderous in defence. So slow we get left with two options - defend tight and watch the opposition pass wide and run tries in or spread out and watch the opponents run between the players who are too slow to cover the gaps. Compound that with a regular supply of missed tackles and it's easy to see why we conceded so may points.
Interesting to look at the Gloucester set up, David Humphries is the DoR who takes no part in coaching, predominantly co-ordinates logistics and comms between all sides ie 1st XV, Development, Academy etc. Then gets involved with the complex area of S&C, player pathways and the list goes on. Basically he doesn't coach nor picks the squad, that is primarily Ackermann's role as Head Coach. There may be the answer for Murphy as possibly the board sees it?
Murphys failed as a skills coach, failed as a head coach, to take on the role of DOR would be a disaster for Tigers, if he can't improve us in those two roles how is he able to step up and make a success of that position.

Its a completely different job with a completely different skill set, a skill set that he has actually used pretty effectively up until this point whilst also being head coach. And if you think he's a failed head coach surely getting him out of that role is a good thing?
Larkham set to join Munster as Backs/Attack coach.
So many top quality coaches on the move this season and yet we'll go for the cheap options.
I say this largely out of frustration. We are not being linked with a backs coach, which suggests that will remain as Geordans remit who has shown over 5 years that as a coach, he is not able to get it through to the players. The only forwards coach we've been linked with is Borthwick, who I dont understand why he'd turn down Wasps to take a similar job at Tigers.
We desperately need real investment in our coaches. I know we keep getting told that the playing budget is separate from the business budget, but surely that playing budget needs to be increased to afford quality coaches?

What’s so special about Wasps that he’d want to join them?
