Well at least Borthwick fits the number 1 criteria for a lot of people on here- he’s never played for Tigers!

Re: New coaching structure?
Should the Borthwick rumor be true it would surely raise questions about Mark Bakewell's future , and possibly quite rightly.
On a personal level would still prefer Graham Rowntree - ex Tiger or not.
On our doorstep, and If good enough for the British Lions then good enough for us.

Re: New coaching structure?
Rowntree would be my pick also, no point in investing in all these forwards without a decent forwards coach.
Re: New coaching structure?
To be fair swapping Borthwick and Ford in for Bakewell and Blake, already our coaching set up is better.
Still without that extra coach, though.
DoR: Geordan Murphy
HC/Forwards: Steve Borthwick
Scrum: Boris Stankovich
Defense/Attack: Mike Ford
Assistant coach: Brett Deacon
Could do with a backs/skills coach to round it off.

Re: New coaching structure?
Strange seeing on paper two brilliant coaches working under a DoR who is historically our most disastrous coach ever. How can Murphy direct something he has no pedigree in? Blind or one-eyed faith is not going to be enough at top level, but i guess we'll have to wait and see.TTRITH wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2019 8:53 am To be fair swapping Borthwick and Ford in for Bakewell and Blake, already our coaching set up is better.

Re: New coaching structure?
I’d happily take Borthwick, but are Tigers taking him out of his England contract or will we have to wait until after the World Cup? The latter would be a very risky option and another waste of a preseason.

Rowntree to Munster confirmed now.
Another top class coach, who was actually available unlike Borthwick, slips Tigers by.

If we didn't approach Rowntree id love to know the reasons why.
Borthwick all but confirmed though.

Borthwick was at WR for the Bath game, but that could clearly be with more than one reason for being there.
Re: New coaching structure?
Maybe Rowntree didn’t want go come back?

Can't see Borthwick not being in Japan with England. Still its another transition season so no need to hit the ground running.

I think you are not far off the mark there.TTRITH wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2019 8:53 am To be fair swapping Borthwick and Ford in for Bakewell and Blake, already our coaching set up is better.

Murphy has not set the world alight as a head coach, but I can see him functioning in a DoR role with a more skilled head coach under him, something like Humphreys/Ackerman at Gloucester.
For what it’s worth, I think Borthwick could be an astute appointment. He’s very highly rated, both from a technical skillset and also in terms of his analysis. I don’t think Bakewell has been a huge success, he’s had 18 months with no real signs of improvement, and freshening things up could make all the difference.
Regarding Ford, I think he’s a definite plus to keep, got plenty of experience to help Murphy, and also has the ability to coach defence or attack in his locker. Greater accuracy and dynamism is needed in both areas, so probably depends where they see Ford making the greatest gains, or maybe who else is out there to fill either other role.
I do wonder if Blake had had a preseason, could he have made a difference. Didn’t after coming in mid term really, but he did last time he was here.
With Rowntree off to Munster, was it ever confirmed that where Flannery was going?

Re: New coaching structure?
What about Newby for the defence and breakdown role? He would be a good addition to the staff.

What track record and experience has he got that makes him a good addition to the staff?Leicestertinytiger wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2019 12:37 pm What about Newby for the defence and breakdown role? He would be a good addition to the staff.
