I have read about these signing for us on the BBC.
Is it me or does this follow the usual pattern; why do we need another hooker and two players who aren’t enforcers???
Hope to be proved wrong!
Sorry , my friend, but you need to take a look at this mans pedigree.Top class operator who at times can be brutal in approach.
I don't know anything about Clare, is he useful?

Premiership and European experience with Saints. Decent experience for a 4th choice.

Heaven forbid that they may have improved while the were away!
Thacker has improved, so have Lewington and Purdey. Its a question of have they improved enough to play in the premiership !
Clare did a good job behind the pecking order of Hartley and Haywood at Saints for two seasons. He started several games including European Cup games. You have to balance where he will fit in at Tigers, first choice hopefully will be Kerr and OTY with Tatu as injury cover, so Clare would be a really useful addition for injury/resting these three, his experience will also be an asset to the development squad and training in general with his Tigers DNA.

With Fitz leaving we could do with signing another quality lock. Hopefully Murphy can use some connections to get Donnacha Ryan for a season. Him and Lavanini would form a brutal pairing.

Do we really need another lock?
2018/19 - Spencer, Kitchener, Fitzgerald, Wells
2019/20 - Lavanini, Spencer, Green, Wells

Arguably this season we’ve had the option of Mike Williams when required, but equally Sam Lewis is 21 now, Cameron Jordan is also a year more mature too, and Liebenberg has played second row also. Do we go out and get an old head to mentor them for another year, or place faith in them as 5th & 6th choice. The caveat here is this seasons locks haven’t been affected by international callups, whereas Lavanini will be.

It depends whether Lewis and Jordan are ready for Premiership Rugby. If so, then we probably don't need another lock. If they aren't, then yes, we probably do.

I'll let Murphy decide on that as he sees these players every day. I don't.

Also depends on what Liebenberg is doing.
Would you want your potential starting 8 to be covering Lock?

Not really and in the past the squad has normally had 5 senior locks. Could always sign someone just on a year contract to fill the gap until the academy lads come in.

Was chatting to a Bedford STH, and they've been very impressed with Clare this season and are gutted to see him go.

Reckons he could end up being 2nd choice by the end of next season if given half a chance.

I.C. doesn't see Lavanini as an "enforcer"! Amazing. Well, Ian, who do you see as enforcer in his position? I am really interested to know.

I'm delighted we have signed the "beast". :smt023

Thanks everyone for all the info. Only going on stats about Tomas Lavanini:
tackle success between 74 and 80 %; minutes played from 15 games this season 36%; average metres gained 1.6m and 10 penalties.
I know Kalamafoni is a no.8 but look at his stats:
87% tackle success from 25 (84% minutes per game)games this season; 6.1 metres gained; 17 penalties.

Kitchener: 87% tackle success.6 metres made on average, 26 games played with average 64% minutes on the field and 15 penalties conceded.

I could go on but won’t!
So well done Kitch and Kalamafoni for those stats in the Premiership this year.

If we do bring Liebenberg in I pray to god we actually play him at 8. One of the major f*** ups over the past years has been having the likes of Fitzgerald, Williams even Wells, playing 4... 5... 6... Even going back a few years doing the same with McCafferty.

Bring in a specialist No8? Play. Him. At. 8

There no way on earth Kitchener averages 6m per carry!
