Re: Quins vs Tigers
Watching the Highlanders v Chiefs game, home side led by our former coach Mauger, and playing with fantastic attacking intent. What we couldn’t have done with some of that last night.
Re: Quins vs Tigers
Yes,would we be where we are now if Mauger got the job and not MoC? Not for me but hey ho

We have been so utterly dire, if Aunty Dot who pours the tea at half time and her best friend Polly are available to do some coaching they are bound to be better. My only concern is what will happen in pre-season. I can see the current panel giving out bacon butties for breakfast and burgers and chips for lunch on a daily basis, to ensure we are bigger next year than we were this. Meanwhile if we never ever see a few of the players again, it will be too soon. Quins had 36 points last year.sapajo wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 10:29 pm
Yep but it's hard not to be optimistic on improving upon either relegation or finishing second to bottom in the premiership!!! The truth is if we survive it means the failed BOD and Coaches survive to coach the same old rugby but with different players serving it up next year!
I agree with a lot of what you say........but. Back 5 weakest in premiership? Given the luxury of first choices, it's surely one of the best? Unless of course you mean D-H, in which case barring perhaps one, you're right. Even then first choices have been limited. The main thrust though is 100%. We all love GM as a player and a bloke, but he was set up to fall. When a huge department store needs a new chief, they don't appoint the bloke who sold the most shirts the year before! He's nurtured for the future, not chucked to the Lions ( or tigers)
Re: Quins vs Tigers
Trying to continue the theme, not be critical. The Tigers are more akin to Harrods appointing Felicity RichGirl as CEO because she loves shopping in Harrods i.e. Just because she's an expert shopper, it doesn't mean she can run a retail business.1989Tiger wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 9:07 amAlthough those department stores usually employ people who have never worked 1 day in a department store in their life so have no idea what it's actually like but that's another topic all together!tigerssteve wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 8:54 amTraveller wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 5:24 am

Re: Quins vs Tigers
I likes SAP's performance last night. His defence was good and he worked hard to come off his wing and offer himself as a ball carrier in attack. He's still a bit naive at times, like challenging for the ball in the air when you're the only chaser down the blindside. Meant when he didn't win the ball Quins made 50m, ok Harrison needs to take some of the blame for a poor kick but if SAP realises the situation then he takes catcher man and ball and Tigers would have made territory. I think he'll be an excellent addition as he grows into the game.westwinds31 wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 7:59 amMy favourite moment of the game. Ben Kay in commentary “Dombrandt is really growing into this game and is increasingly prominent” ......he’s being replaced !!!!WhitecapTiger wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 9:15 pm Turnover ball, great by Genge, and our lot are so asleep they get in Veainu's way trying to get out of defence.
Somehow Quins have a comedy moment and we get a penalty to clear lines.
Dombrandt off for Quins - Kunatani on.
A word on Aspland-Robinson. When he came into the first team squad, he looked a bit rabbit in headlights, but has improved and last night was his best game for us. Very busy and looked threatening.
I liked the attacking shape we were trying to put into the game last night. More runners looking to come in and overload defenders. Very much a Leinster style tactic and if we can work on that in the off season I can see us using well next season. Players just need to be a bit more confident in what they are doing and follow through in support from any half breaks so we can offload.

Re: Quins vs Tigers
The 2nd half performance was frankly a disgrace for a premiership rugby team.
Individual mistake after individual mistake, followed by brainless penalties, one after the other. No wonder we could get no momentum and our playmakers lost confidence and started kicking the ball away when we did have it!!
Can't wait for this season to end to be honest, looking forward to the WC and a serious clear out at Tigers with the introduction (hopefully) of some players and coaches deserving of the shirt (and our support).

I agree. There's a huge difference to shopping in one to working in one though. My point was more that some CEO's of businesses get their jobs through going to university and reading books etc instead of getting their hands dirty and actually doing the job that they want from their employees, which is why they make some weird decisions and unrealistic expectations.Traveller wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 10:04 amTrying to continue the theme, not be critical. Anyway, this probably isn't the place to discuss this!

Re: Quins vs Tigers
True. I or obably should have let that game play out before committing, but still, they scored 31 points, got a draw and scored some great tries, great to watch. Did we come out with a better result than that last night? They just played with defensive intensity and attacking intent.1989Tiger wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 10:21 amThey conceded 31 points and didn't win though.FrontRowUnionMember wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 9:45 am Watching the Highlanders v Chiefs game, home side led by our former coach Mauger, and playing with fantastic attacking intent. They may have defensive intensity but they conceded 31 points. If we are comparing, Tigers conceded 23 points.FrontRowUnionMember wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 10:47 amTrue. I see your point but I just don't agree with that sort of rugby being great rugby. To me, great rugby is winning rugby. If that means slow and shove it up your shirt Rugby gets you a 6-3 win, then I'll watch that every week.

This I'd agree with , but we have not been doing that ,have we ?
Down to our resources , player wise ?
Down to our coaching ?
Probably a little (or a lot) of both , but as a team we are certainly less than the the sum of our parts.

Seemingly heading rapidly toward senility .....Not long or far to go now , in fact, getting worse daily.....

No we haven't but people keep saying how great that type of rugby is and that's what we should be aiming for. It isn't. We just need winning rugby.

Re: Quins vs Tigers
Yes ellis winning is the most important thing and it is possible to do so with a limited game plan, but at some point other teams work you out and the plan needs to evolve.
Look at Sarries very limited game plan a few years ago under Venter, we all hated the style but had grudging respect, now we have to sit back in admiration as we watch them win in style, but they have not forgotten that a dominant pack is still the most important thing in rugby union.
