I'll bow to your superior knowledge and expertise and by the sounds of it, your personal experience on this subject.

Great! So we agree that the recruitment strategy isn’t working!ellis9 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 15, 2018 9:33 amWhere have I said that? All I've said is how do you know the players we have signed, weren't the best available to us?DeadlyDunc wrote: ↑Sat Dec 15, 2018 9:27 am You can’t build a culture and identity with the amount of players coming and going every 12 months which seems to be a point he’s alluding to.
If GM is sorting it then my worries stated on the rumours thread would be reduced because as long as a dozen players come and go every summer there’s no chance of continual improvement and the likes of Genge will eventually get frustrated and leave.
Ellis argues differently but the recruitment strategy over many years simply hasn’t worked and that is a key factor in how I read Genges loyalty comments
Re: Genge in the Telegraph
Not quite. The strategy hasn't got us success, however, we may have signed the best players that have been available to us. Therefore, the strategy may be working fine.DeadlyDunc wrote: ↑Sat Dec 15, 2018 10:05 amGreat! If you are basing it purely on success, it's not worked yet but had we had another strategy, we have been worse off.
We won't truely know how well or bad it is until we change it and then see if we get better players or worse players.
Whose to say that with the same strategy going forward, we may sign more better quality players meaning that the strategy works?
Re: Genge in the Telegraph
If you want to know some effects then I'd suggest that you try to imagine yourself and BY holding hands on lush green grass (not synthetic) at 3pm on a Saturday, and you might find out!
As for any side effects I canno't say for sure other than maybe a need to chase people with a big stick, which you do seem to show signs of!

Re: Genge in the Telegraph
I've come to the reluctant conclusion that some on here are just which I suppose is an improvement on the and we had for years.
It is clear from what Ellis Genge says that all has not been well. Coincidence with the BK/Rory hand in team affairs?
BTW Ellis9 you can join the for the repeated stupid comments about 'fans'.
When Cockers was here, the 'senior players', left over after the 2012 generation left, got an ear to the BoD and that for me was where the Tigers Way was lost. For all the criticism of our 'outdated' play of that time, many successful teams play that way today. And those who said the 'Tigers Spirit' left the room when Cockers was sacked were probably spot on.

Re: Genge in the Telegraph
I don't see the problem! As long as the comments arnt distasteful then so what, forums and blogs were purposefully invented for fans/supporters to have their say. As long as it crosses no lines then I'm all for it,it's not as if we are booing at the ground or trolling players personal accounts on twitter say. I'd much prefer this than happy clappers/sheep/seals who bury their head in the sand and pretend everything is hunkey dorey. For those who do follow wendyball our situation mirrors that of an Aston Villa bar the relegation and they look like theyve finally found the right coach/owner after problem after problem. They didn't think they would go down either! Our problems could run deeper than anyone realises, who knows?

3 pages of comment and no words on this. He's 23 and has already had a meniscus removed (at least I assume that is what he means by 'cartilage') and a major shoulder repair. When the medics say a decent level rugby match is like putting your body through a car crash, they mean it.They say it is the greatest job in the world – you go and run into a 150kgs Samoan for a living. I’ve ripped my shoulder off the bone. I’ve got no cartilage left in my knee.
Be angry with the BoD, Cohen or whoever, but don't doubt for a second that the players deserve every penny they get.....

Re: Genge in the Telegraph
Ellis Genge should be applauded for stating the bl-----ing obvious.
Refreshing that players should have a right to respond. Although I would rather see the response on the field of play.
Its no great surprise that players are as frustrated (as many) with constant staff/personnel changes.
Contracts are coming to an end and like all top players, they are going to clubs that can give a better prospect of silverware and/or salary. Its the easier option, in modern professional sport, and like he says the shirt means not that much.
I assume and expect he will not be the only one to consider his future once contracts are up - and we go round again on the wheel of recruitment.
We choose our career paths and try to make the most of it. I am not about to complain that my sport cost me permanent physical health. It goes with the territory. Be grateful that players are supported through their injuries with the finest medical facilities and rehabilitation. Unlike most amateur sports persons .
The shirt probably did mean more in the amateur era......................

Re: Genge in the Telegraph
I applaud Ellis Genge's honesty, I admire people who say what they think whether I agree with it or not. I don't like the personal comments between posters that seem to creep into pretty much every thread so the actual subject is lost. For the record I think that the club got it wrong in sacking Cocker and I agree with much of what J, Griffin says. A new coach wants to play a certain way and therefore makes changes to the squad to get players suited to his system, changes in coaches brings changes to squad. I now think that in Geordan Murphy if we give him time we have the opportunity to recapture old times. People bemoan the squad changes yet look at other threads and there are suggestions that we should sign a vast list of players that may or may not be available and failure to sign anyone who was rumoured linked to us but may not actually have been leaving his current club or within our budget is Ged Glynn's fault. It is a fact that players cannot come in unless others move out, some signings work others don't that has always been the case. I am sure Deano regrets the signing of Pez and Fourie and a few others. We do need a period of stability, the current squad is basically pretty good as individuals, they need to bond and play together, and will then be capable of competing at the very top once again.
