Matt Smith injury

Post by WirralExile »

Watched the replay of the “incident” that caused Matt Smith to go off injured, quite sickening. It wasn’t quite as bad as the Clarke incident on Rob Hawkins, but close. There was no reason for the Racing player to hold Matt’s arm all the way to the floor. TMO should have spotted this. What chance he’ll be cited?

I thought that I heard that the TMO had checked the incident and concluded no foul play.

Should be a citing, looks like either a broken arm or dislocated elbow (I think the latter).

Sorry to disagree but nothing wrong with the Racing players actions and completely different from the Hawkins/Clarke incident.
For me it was another joint injury caused by a plastic pitch

It was a genuine accident IMO.

Clarke was just cold blooded.

it was sod all to do with the pitch and totally because their player arm barred Matt and then landed on his arm

Nothing in it. After all, a tackler is allowed to hold the player as he falls to the ground, be it his ankle, hip, thigh or whatever.

The 4g pitch may not have helped though. Either way, very unfortunate. Hopefully there’s a fit back for the bench next week.

I thought it was deserving of at least a penalty and possibly more!
Not even sure Smith had the ball before the opponent locked his arm?
Tackle properly and it doesn't happen!

Did look an unfortunate accident to me but was surprised it wasn’t looked into more. The Munster player getting away with breaking Telusa Veainu’s jaw last season when he basically head butted him was a far worst decision. That was a blatant red card.

That was just plain negligence...

...which as your rightly say, should have been a red card or a citing.

Andrew Conway, who went off injured himself (possibly stretchered off but I can't remember) which probably served to 'mask' his part in Telusa's injury.

Makes a mockery of some more recent red cards, duty of care and all that.

Matt Smith suffered a dislocated shoulder and Jonah Holmes left the field with a head knock in the first half.
