The next New Head Coach / DOR?

On the flip side if Ben Ryan did get the job at least we know England would never be able to poach him after his massive fallout with the RFU

It's because Murphy has an incredibly intelligent rugby brain, knows the club like the back of his hand and has some really good ideas.TTRITH wrote: ↑Tue Sep 04, 2018 10:13 am What surprises me is the amount of ex-players who feel that Geordan Murphy is the perfect guy to be the new DoR. Bring in an experienced Head Coach (Rowntree seems the best, avaliable bet), a backs coach and an attack coach (Mike Catt and Ben Ryan!)
Would leave us with
DoR: Geordan Murphy
Head Coach: Graham Rowntree
Forwards: Mark Bakewell
Backs: Mike Catt
Defense: Brett Deacon
Attack: Ben Ryan
Scrum: Boris Stankovich
Heavy Tigers influence, plenty of outside experience. Could see that working. I'd still favour a complete clear out mind.
Looking at RBs post; if the club are serious about fixing things, get on the phone to Brendon Venter, now!
Also, your desire of a DOR won't happen unless Glynn leaves or gets sacked.

Re: The next New Head Coach / DOR?
From what I hear from ex players is
Murphy was the backs coach with Mauger during the time HM left and it was some of the best back plays they have had.
Since going into coaching at tigers he was really being given much of a chance what with the head coaches being Backs coaches as is.
Now Murphy will have his chance I guess.

Don't want him sacked, he's doing really well with academy. Just focus his mind on that!

So in that case, your DOR idea is pointless. There's no room for both Glynn and a DOR.TTRITH wrote: ↑Tue Sep 04, 2018 10:28 amDon't want him sacked, he's doing really well with academy. Would anyone consider Jim Mallender?
Re: The next New Head Coach / DOR?
There is! If he wants to stay move him across to a Head of Academy/Head of Youth Rugby Operations; allowing a DoR to focus on the senior squad (team selections, recruitment, retension) with a Head Coach to be responsible for training.

Re: The next New Head Coach / DOR?
Maybe as a non coaching DOR ala Humphreys at Glous.
What he did very well at Saints was pinch all the best youngsters from his time with England he will know the best U18 players coming through now and could do the same.
But if Mallinder was DOR I would want a pretty big name Head Coach whose job was the senior team and didn't have to answer to the DOR.
Re: The next New Head Coach / DOR?
No there isn't. Yes he could be given an academy job but we couldn't have him in his current role as well as having a DOR.
You have contradicted yourself.
Re: The next New Head Coach / DOR?
I don't see how? I've said I don't want him sacked (leaving the club), but for him to be moved aside, into a different role.
I agree wholeheartedly that whilst he is in his current guise, a DoR is ultimately pointless.

Re: Who would you like to see as the new DOR / Head Coach?
say something that Martin Johnson isn't on the list (& Jim Mallendar is)
Re: The next New Head Coach / DOR?
Interesting that Murphy didn't take the Cardiff DoR job.
Did he see this coming?

I think he'd be great in the Welford costume for half-time shenanigans
Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens.
