Us or them?

Post by 1988 »

Honest question, honest replying please....

Which position would we prefer the club to be in? and solely on these reasons (none of this wasps moved the club etc)

Ours or Wasps - Ricoh arena and the casino etc, their current team and staff, attractive style of play, current position in league, making a financial loss but have backers.

Ours, every day of the week, our future is far more solid, Wasps have a rough few seasons like ours and they're doomed IMHO...
No, not that one!

Remember, whatever you do to the smallest of the backs you do to his prop, and you can't avoid the rucks and mauls forever...

I know you don't like it when I boo him but how else will he know he's wrong?

Wasps are on dodgy ground financially and need to be making real money in the next few seasons to satisfy their investors.
Playing wise something seems amiss with both Haskell and Cipriani leaving to who knows where, and the emerging Johnson issue.
Their 2 big signings for next season, I’m sure they are not too chuffed about Shields being linked with England, and as good as Sopawanga is he needs to settle and blend with Gopperth

From a business point of view it depends on whether the investors in Wasps are truly that and wish to see a return or whether they are sponsors using the investment loss as a tax tool.

I'm sure Tigers would love more sponsors but also sure that a sound financial footing is also important.

No doubt Tigers would be in the soup if their big sponsors were lost - even our ticket sales would not go far in covering the running costs and salary bills. For many clubs the gate money is far less and they are absolutely dependent on TV and sponsorship.

I don't buy into the concept that flash running rugby is better. A hard fought contest is just as exciting and we shouldn't dumb down the sport to the extent that the aspects that make the game unique are lost. Forward grunt and running rugby all have a part to play.

Wasps are only part of Richardson's business, the ground is collateral as is the surrounds. His business is registered in Malta, unlike Wasps, so no doubt is impervious to any demands on his personal money. Frankly I think it is a set up for ST returns to the directors and a takeover by equity or billionaire, I don't think it will go bankrupt BUT I would watch the playing side carefully as Cipriani is a big loss.

I quite like much of Wasps on field play and I don't think it is too far away from what Leicester can do.
I don't think they are too flashy at all and I like that they play with a traditional open side and try to up the tempo and are creative rather than sealing ball off like Exeter often do.
Off field they are very different but I have no problem with what they are striving for.

Wasps back play is light years ahead of ours at present imo. In full flow they are superb and score plenty of trys off first phase ball, many from their own half and one last season off the top of a lineout in their own 22! Ours looks uncomfortable, awkward and forced at times. I'm not saying we don't score some worldies, but ours are more like to come from an individual piece of brilliance while theres stem from an almost telepathic back line with a superbly in tune 9/10/12

It's not a more successful way of playing though is it?! It may look nicer to the untrained rugby eye, but it's not a successful way of playing. No side playing like that has won the Premiership. Now that is a FACT!

Why are they better? What have they done for Wasps that ours haven't done for Tigers?

By the way, what you said wasn't a fact, it was definitely an opinion.

I prefer the way Gloucester are heading over Wasps, playing at their own ground with a synthetic grass pitch (like ours) being installed next year, playing some great attacking rugby but also have an impressive defence and a destructive scrum. Much more complete than Wasps imo and under Ackermann, their immediate future does look bright.
